Default LiveLeaked Hood failure.

Repost? Its fairly recent . Is this a RLer? And how many would have driven to the pits peaking under the crack.
From the LL post; The hood latch on my 996 Carrera failed on the back straight of VIR, at ~ 125 MPH. The impact was quite substantial; it shook the entire car, dented the roof, and shattered the rear view mirror. The windshield is lexan, otherwise it would surely have shattered, as well. Luckily, I was able to get the car slowed down safely and off the track before causing problems for anyone else.
Edit: Thanks to the people who actually commented in a polite and constructive manner. You trolls and haters are very fun, as well. Keep it comin'!
Oh, and just FYI... I did not post this to brag in any way. I just thought you guys would be interested in the video, since dash cam incidents are so popular on this site.
As for the latch failure... the previous owner of the car made some stupid changes to the hood latching system and, in the process, damaged the internal components of the locking mechanism. Hood clips were definitely on my list of changes to the car, but I procrastinated and it led to this.
The car is a 2001 Carrera Coupe (2WD) with full roll-cage, stock 3.4 engine, stock transmission, Moton Double Adjustable Club Sport shocks, Hoosier R6 tires, front and rear GT3 LCAs, Wevo motor mounts, adjustable rear toe links, Brembo Big Brake kit, solid subframe bushings, full open exhaust, EVO Cold Air Box & Filter, lexan front and rear windshields, and fuel cell. Weight is just a tad under 3100 lbs.

Wow, I'm amazed that it stayed on the car. That is a LOT of force.

The irony is, usually stock hood latches are more reliable and this is the sort of thing that happens from forgotten hood pins. Well, until you get some "engineer" who thinks they can do the hood latch better than the "amateurs" at Porsche.

Oh, I almost forgot - That will buff out!

I played the part where the hood smashes back like 10 times. I find the sound rather entertaining.

Sorry for your luck though. I have seen some really shoddy engineering done by people trying to "improve" things.

Which is why our tech re-installs stock hood latch on any new/used Cup that arrives at the shop. Cheap insurance.

It happened at the PCA club race, twice in one day - both on cars prepared by the same track side support group.

Same at my shop. They always install or keep the OEM safety latch in place regardless of hood pins. Cheap insurance and weighs next to nothing...

Happened to a friend's E46 M3 at NOLA on front straight just as he went into 5th. The video was something. He decided the cheap knock-off brand hood latches weren't as good as the real deal. Luckily he was able to just stay straight and bring it to a stop before T1.
