IMSA DP Seat Mount Changes
I just saw this article about seat mount changes in DP cars as a result of Memo Gidley's crash last year. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...rash/22239365/
Interestingly, it says:
The DP rules state:

I wonder what the spring is for?
Interestingly, it says:
"There was one enhancement that was called for and that was in the area of the seat mounts and the robustness of the spring in the seat mount," IMSA CEO Scott Atherton told USA TODAY Sports on Friday. "Aside from that, there have not been any further recommendations or additional changes."
13.1.3. Seat Mounting
a. Seats must be rigidly mounted to the chassis at the
base and seatback.
b. The gap between seat back and firewall must be filled
with padding to prevent shell deflection in rear
impacts.

I think he's referring to the deflection of the carbon fiber shell, at least I hope he is...

Could be. I read it as there is a physical spring in the seat mount, but he could have meant the amount of flex it it. It would be interesting to know which it was.

There is no discussion of a spring in other than Atherton's statement, in the rules, anyway. I was messing with the Highway to Help car and it looked conventional to me. That is also the only reason why they would specify required padding between the back of the seat and the bulkhead.
