PORSCHE CUSTOMER CARS RUN FLAWLESSLY DURING DEBUT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 15, 2015 (Daytona Beach, Fla.) – A trio of customer owned Porsche Cayman racecars experienced flawless debuts at two of sports car racing’s most iconic venues. The first laps for a pair of brand new IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series ST Class Caymans vaulted them to the top of the time sheets for Day 1 of 2015 Roar Before the 24 Testing at Daytona International Speedway, completing every single lap in the hands of their new owners. Meanwhile down at Sebring International Raceway another customer owned Porsche Cayman was celebrating its racing debut of both car and driver at the Porsche BMW Owners Club’s annual “Winterfest”, as Jim *** and Luke Lambert completed every single lap of every single session, including a 6 hour endurance race, a 3 hour endurance race, a 90 minute endurance race and 3 sprint races.
“Two of the longest months we have ever had were just rewarded by two of the greatest possible outcomes. While there is certainly a recipe to what we do, the quality of the base platform of these cars never ceases to amaze us. Porsche really builds an unbelievable car and we are fortunate to be associated with that marque and specifically the Cayman.”
BGB was contracted in late October to build two brand new Porsche Caymans for Next Level European, the new satellite initiative of longtime BMW racer and IMSA series regular James Clay and his successful Bimmerworld group. With each car’s requiring nearly 300 hours of labor, the group of only 3 full-time employees worked non-stop through November, December, Christmas and New Year’s to meet the tight deadline.
“We have not let up since the day these cars arrived and our crew literally finished them the morning of the test, made possible only by their ability to do whatever it took to meet the deadline. The fact that it went as well as it did is a testament to them and how much of their care went into these cars.”
The new IMSA Caymans rolled off the transporter at Daytona for testing and their first laps vaulted them to the top of the time sheets for both sessions, with the familiar #38 and #83 on the top of the scoring board in true BGB fashion. Repeating a scenario that BGB has executed several times before, brand new cars completed every single lap of the 6 session testing event without issue.
Factory built Porsche race cars have never been permitted in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series and therefore the onus has been on the teams to create their own package based on the Porsche Cayman platform. Following the 2013 merger of the Grand-Am Road Racing Association and the International Motor Sports Association, that changing landscape inspired BGB to transform from a race team into a retail business operated with the purpose of building cars and selling parts and engineering to customers wanting to campaign street based Porsches for any and all types of usage. From street cars to Driver’s Education cars to Porsches that compete at the highest form of professional motorsport in the United States, BGB provides something for every level of commitment.
January is a busy month for racing in Florida and therefore the BGB effort was split between Daytona and Sebring, where their full-time staff supported the PBOC “Winterfest’ effort that resulted in a milestone for the Cayman with a 3.8L Porsche 997 engine and PDK sequential transmission. The 6 hour endurance event was the longest running attempt for a Porsche with a PDK transmission in North America and the 2012 Cayman R ran flawlessly to a finishing position of 2nd in class and 8th overall among 40 competitors. Car owner Jim *** paired with good friend and Sprint Cup Series regular Luke Lambert and the two did not put a wheel wrong all weekend, finishing strongly in every outing.
“This event exceeded all of our expectations. The fact that we impressed even Sprint Cup regular Luke Lambert, speaks volumes for BGB and the performance of the car. This was my first race ever and I am thrilled with how everything went,” added car owner Jim ***.
BGB customers and drivers weren’t the only ones ecstatic over the outcome of both events, as their partners also take the same pride in the performance of the cars that feature their products. Guard Transmission’s owner Matt Monson could not be happier that his proprietary limited slip differential for PDK can also enjoy the fact it joins the rest of the Guard Transmission product line as being “race proven!” Their clutch type limited slip differential that is available for all PDK and 991 7-speed transmissions (without PTV Plus) is just another item to be endurance tested with 100% success. Suspension partners RSS/Road Sport Supply and their monoball Tarmac Series Suspension components are on every BGB vehicle and were up the task of enduring nearly 11 hours on track at Sebring, the world’s most abusive, real-time test facility! BGB’s sole ECU tuning partner Revolution Mini gets the credit for delivering the most power via ECU tuning and is always there in the 23rd hour when BGB needs him the most! All 3 cars featured the Tarett Engineering remotely adjustable bladed front sway bar and anyone who has engineered a Porsche knows that the ability to have the most powerful suspension tuning tool in your hand creates an even better platform for endurance racing! Having been BGB’s exhaust partner since 2009, Cargraphic is now 1 of only 2 permitted IMSA spec exhaust providers for the 2015 Season. Forgeline has been BGB’s wheel partner since 2012 and the logical provider of the gorgeous, lightweight single piece GA1R for the ST Cayman program while providing the Sebring car with the tried and trusted 3-piece GA3R from the Championship Rolex GX program.

Thanks folks! It was a long 2 months and we are happy to be on the other side of it. Truth be told I'm a little shocked the car withstood 11 hours of abuse on track at Sebring and people tell me it's not that big of a deal; but these are street cars being asked to be race cars and I figured something would have given up the ghost! The PDK never skipped a beat and while it was in the 50s, the car ran 192 on the water and 220 on the oil and all systems were fine. Thanks again! P.S. Who is coming to the 48 hr in 2 weeks?

It was great getting a chance to finally drive a BGB built car at Daytona. Loved every minute of it! Thank you for the time to build the cars and the information on the cars throughout the weekend. Now it is time to look forward to next week so we can bring home some hardware in the #38!

Anyone that has built a race car from a street car knows how much of a feat this is.
Shows how good BGB is at building these cars.
Don't know why anyone would have a Cayman race car built by anyone else, unless you want to pay for others to learn off your dime.
True, tried , and TESTED.
Cant wait until I get a BGB Cayman Race car for the stable.
