Default Featherlite 3110 Winch Setup - Can you share pics?

I've a featherlike 3110 17' trailer. Can those of you with a winch post the setup? Guy I bought it from had a platform mounted to the tongue, but I've a box there now. was thinking of mounting one to the deck on a raised platform or just to the deck itself. Battery I'd just use a big booster box (should work??). Which winch? Cheap in me says disposable HF... Trailer is stored outside at an RV place (socal, not much rain) so kinda OK with a ****ty winch in case someone wants to steal it maybe see HF label and move on LOL.

I wouldn't bother putting a battery on the trailer. Just run a connection to the tow vehicle that you can plug in when needed. If you have a german SUV, the battery is likely in the rear anyways.

Shake is right. Having the winch run off the tow vehicle battery is the way to go.

You can mount the winch directly to the bed of the trailer without problem. When you do though, line it up with the tie hook on your car rather than putting it in the middle. This way the cable will spool on to the drum better.

If you are going with a wired remote, get one that is at least 30' long. Superwinch makes ones with long cables on the remote. Warn does not to my knowledge. On the other hand, if you go with a wireless remote, Warn seems to be the better option. Having tried both, I prefer the wireless remote.

+1 The wireless remote makes it easier to load the car with your hands on the wheel.

We used the warn pullzall with an ATV synthetic rope (50'). It rules, you can latch it on a front tie down ring or use a wheel strap to loop it around the tongue or whatever. You can get AC or DC versions. We used AC because the trailer was on shore or genset. I will never but another 'fixed' winch again for a race trailer.

Interesting application. I would be concerned, however, about being in the line of fire if the cable breaks, but I guess that's why you went with syn rope.

You still happy with this decision? Looks economical and practical

There is a formula for converting total weight of a load to a load on a winch cable when the load is rolling. Depends on the angle of the ramps, but a 1000# capacity can be enough to get the job done because it's rolling.

This Q&A on etrailer addresses it some, using a 10% incline as an example:

It can be enough assuming all four wheels on your car are still turning. Not always the case. Just like a tow vehicle, you want more winch than you think you need.

Yup, which is why I put "can" in bold italics. Same concept as being able to push your 3000# car; that doesn't mean you can lift 3000#. And a car you can push with 4 rolling tires can quickly become immobile if a brake locks up or the tire is flat.
