Default When will Porsche start racing the 9A1 engine?

Whether a derivative of the new GT3 motor or other - when are they going to race the 9A1? After watching them win Daytona (and Le Mans) it seems to me that they have the bugs worked out of the 991 chassis, so they can introduce a new variable (engine). I would think that DFI would help mpg and consequently improve endurance racing performance. The Mezger is no longer being produced in any other production line (which begs the question of homologation) so I wonder how long it is feasible to manufacture.

Is there something I'm missing here? This is not intended to be a 9A1 vs Mezger thread, but it just makes you wonder...

I heard they were waiting for the rules to shape up before they picked a direction. I can't see them go 9A1, or they would have already done so.

They won Daytona AND had their other car lose its engine. That's 50% success.

They're already on record for saying they intend to do so as soon as possible. (It was in a copy of Panorama last year right before Le Mans.) The main reason cited was the superior fuel consumption of the 9A1 compared to the Mezger and that they were worried about how much of a disadvantage it was going to be running it for another year compared to the DFI-engined Ferrari 458s. Obviously it wasn't a factor in the race and it still worked out. There's no question the Mezger is an amazing race motor and has a great legacy but they'll eventually get the DFI motors right. They seem to be doing fine where they've been raced so far.

Maybe they adopted DFI into the Metzger engine.

Waiting until 2016 rules are clarified...they need to get the new engine into the race cars as the old Mezger is no where near as efficient...Other cars with DFI can beat them...Agreesive driving and pit strategy are what keep Porsche winning lately !

Hearing engine change for 991.2 Cup but no clarification on how close the new engine will be to 9A1.

+1 - Yeah it's probably more accurate to talk about this as a new DFI motor, not 9A1.

When do the various FIA homologations start to expire? 2016? and up until 2019? Wasn't there recently a hint from August Achleitner@PAG of a 991GT3RS with a special engine (i.e. Metzger)? If that's the case then its going to be a long while?

The 9a1 has already been racing for a few years with success. John Tice BGB Racing won the Rolex GS Championship a couple years ago with the 9a1. Rum Bum Racing is also successful in racing the 9A1 too.

That's what I was referring to.
