Bicycling on the track
After closing the other day, I rode four laps on my recumbent bike around Monticello along with Aaron Weiss (head of Ops) and some others.
I have walked the track before but I really enjoyed biking it.
The elevation changes are SO much more apparent on a bike as are all the little nuances and imperfections along the circuit.
It also allowed me to justify a pizza for dinner!
I am heading to VIR soon. Does anyone know if they allow bikes on track after hours?
This was the tracing from my Garmin 800.

Most tracks do allow bikes after hours. Not positive about VIR.
I've done it on: Rd Atl, Mid OH, and seen it on others. Is a cool way to see the track at VR's Speed..

When you ride a recumbent any hill is hard. Get a real bike
I remember a former teammate of mine, and a good hill climber, once bemoaning about a colligate race he did at Watkins Glen. That thing would be great for a nasty World Championship race. Imagine doing thirty plus laps!

I've taken my bike around Mosport and Summit Point after hours.
One year, after the Clash at the Glen, there was a bike race on the track - the last stage of a triathlon. We all had fun cheering them on.

Ive done that bike race at the Glen after a full day of PCA racing.. what a blast! Quickly you get to see things like the Uphill Esses don't end until the bus stop..

Yup. Amazingly educational. Also the off-camber nature of the left side of the track ("the line") approaching and at turn in for the Bus Stop is quite apparent. Helps people understand why it is so easy to make inside passes into there...

Nice to hear that others have done this. I agree VR, it was very educational for me. I'd really like to ride VIR and WGI. Hell, Calabogie would be like riding out in the country side without any cars.
Matt, I now remember seeing the bikes lining up at NHMS for the after hours races.

Yes. MidOH even had a Century one day after the track closed at 5:00 when I was there.
