Default PDK Race Car, Maintenance?

Hello,
Interested in Moving to a PDK Race car.
I am wondering what the maintenance is on the gearbox? Can you rebuild them or do you just have to buy a new one for ~$20k?
Also how many hours before you need to rebuild/Replace?

Can’t be rebuilt - period. Once they die (and they do die) you either replace with a used one or a refurbished or new one from Porsche.

How often do they die?

We're talking like a conventional PDK gearbox for a 987.2? I don't think you're at $20k unless you want to go order a new one from the dealer parts counter. Any good shop can just find you one out of a wrecked car for probably less than $5k. My one minute eBay search found 91 of them for various models.

It's really hit or miss and no they are not $5k. You can't get even get a good manual box for that in a 987.2 Cayman/Boxster. Send me a pm and I'll put you in touch with two of my friends that had their PDK fail this season.

Do you already know how to cut ladies hair or are you planning to learn before the purchase?

Well, Geneman, I am currently pricing Clubsports, so there's that.

And in order to get up to Winders level, who is a master of the angry post, I would have to turn my invective **** up to 11. Currently I'm at a 2 - 3.5 if I have been drinking.

I leave it up to you to decide the seriousness of my posts in the future.

Trust me, not the case... You are seeing Gen 1 987 automatic's with torque converter's, not 09 up Gen 2 PDK's... There are ZERO on ebay, trust me, I know.
Refurbished you are 11k plus taxes, service and shipping. Close to 15 all in and new is 25k all in. Why these 10 year old transmissions are "non serviceable" and still as expensive as they are is pretty ridiculous.

BTW, when they go they can go with ZERO warning. Mine went while the car was sitting in between practice 2 and qualifying. Ran fine in Practice, parked it, got in for qualifying and it was dead. Season over and I run all the add on PDK coolers as well. I got ~ 7,000 miles and almost 2 1/2 years out of my PDK on track.

the GT4 clubsports are seeing 10k + miles of racing before issues begin to arise.

as long as the software updates are installed and scheduled maintenance is performed you will see alot of life and excellent performance out of the PDK with very little costs.

it is a magical transmission.

What were failure symptoms other than you obviously weren't able to drive the car?

I heard that PDK can be fit into a street 981, no chance it can be retrofit into a 987 too?

fwiw we do

- change the trans fluid (and diff) every couple race weekends.

- recalibrate after any temp event or deviation from normal operation - have piwis on hand to recalibrate at the track if u have an issue (blow cooler line etc)

- make sure you have very good cooling on the trans as well as the diff fluid - pay attention to error codes there are a couple to watch out for

- cobb pdk tune is worth it performance-wise but potentially a bit harder on the trans

- have fun
