I have found the Toyo R1R to be a fantastic tire. Particularly in the rain.
R888 is absolutely horrible in the rain. Do not use as a street tire. SOme that use them as a spec tire actually create their own tread patterns to try to deal with the rain issue.

Get the RA1 - they are fine on the street for occasional use - my only concern in your case is that they will wear faster than a street tire - but not that fast. I have RA-1 for driving to and from the track, wet track sessions, and occasional fun drives. I have also driven to various shops on longer rides with them. I definitely wouldn't worry about heat cycling. They will perform great in your conditions. The only problem you will have with them is that they will pick up rocks and dirt and throw it at your wheel wells like any good R-comp and unlike most street tires - so that adds some noise on dirty surfaces and also will wear the paint on the exposed back surface of your wheel wells. AIM tire in california is a good source for these (no affiliation but that is who I bought mine through). I think the RA-1 would be much better than the R888 for a primarily street driven car and it seems most people prefer them on the track as well although I have never had a set of R888. RA-1 full tread is great in the rain.
225s front on 7" and 245 rear on 8" - 16 inch rims works fine, that is what I have.

All in all it sounds like a better compromise ( trade offs being tread depth and maybe some side wall stiffness as compared to the R888's ) ??

The easiest thing to do is simply buy a set of 17" wheels with tires on them. I'm sure you can find a set of boxster wheels with good street tires on them for less than it'll cost to buy a new set of RA1's.

But being the **** retentive, nut job that I am.
I have 3 sets of like new wheels 2 of the club sports and one set of Mg Turbo cups
No doubt, the best way to open up the choices is to ditch the 16's but at this time, I just can't ... I am almost sure I am going to get the RA1's at this point There are some many people using this tire and seem to be happy with it ... and it does seem a bit more street friendly than the R888's

I can find the 225 50 16 but not the RA 1R's in a 245 45 16
Here is what I found on the website. I will be calling the vendor tomorrow
TOYO Proxes R1R 225 50R16 92V
And then
TOYO Proxes RA1 245 45ZR16
I don't believe these are the same compounds

NT01 has 245/50ZR16 and it should be only 1 inch taller than 245/45r16, 25.47" diameter - are you sure that you cannot use them?
