Position of the driver in the most recent photo seems to confirm failed harness. Very sad.

Default Georg Plasa

He had it all, a wry smile that made U want to know him better, a magnificent Bavarian farm, intelligence, engineering expertise and driving ability nonpareil. He was super fit but 51, with that all the physiological changes accompanying his age. What a tragedy.
www.streetcarscy have the video of the crash. There are sparks but not enough for a dragging suspension. The turn in was 80 metres too early so he came out straight into the mountain--whatever the reason.
That beautiful 135 ended up as a death trap. Unlike GP there was no solid Cfibre tub, loose panels all fastened or screwed together, the cage simply concentrating its front forces directly into the steering support, the parts behind still moving and crumpling up, the Cfibre seat even pushing him forward. Tons of force developed on impact.
The deceleration was no greater than many GP smashes but there was a huge roll in milliseconds after the massive impact and he would have been flung about against all the bars and exposed edges.
Distance yourself from emotion and remember only he knew nothing after hitting the side.
Forget HANS, such forces cause internal spinal compression fractures, the sharp bone moving forward to slice an organ or aorta in front, the weight of blood in the thoracic aorta simply ruptures it through where there is atheroma in a 51 year old, the ribs fracture and puncture lungs which are torn and contused anyway, kidneys tear from their base and there is massive bleeding into the closed area behind in the abdomen compressing blood supply back to the heart. The head is flung about, the neck flexing, tearing vertebral arteries supplying the brain which itself is banging about inside the skull. Who knows about the neck vertebrae.
That is reality and is what I see every day in ICU and the risk we ALL take every time we get on a fast bike or climb into a car. It does not stop us because we are fortunate in believing WE are invincible
Celebrate what Plasa achieved, I will always miss the latest video, his astute, humorous, presentations, hearing and seeing those machines.
He was at middle age a World Champion 7 times just as in the 30s those guys in the Mercs and Auto Unions were world champions with the European Championships the only title back then.
I worked with Bernd Rosemeyers son for a short while, he had never known his father, so think of those left behind and be glad Georg is not a dribbling grunting, unintelligent cripple--he would not have wanted that.
Quite a man to remember.
