"What do you think saved us from going into the wall on that lap?" - overhearing an instructor talk to a student in the paddock at a DE event

From an instructor to a red haze student (in a Viper) who he made pull into the pits because he wouldn't listen:
Student: "why are you getting out of the car - the session's not over"
Instructor: "Because I'm too old, and too StrekStrekStrekStreking rich to die in this piece of **** when you bury it in the tire wall"

Three Wheelin'
Really good list.
It was Hemingway's quote, and he said "Grand Prix Racing", not just auto racing. Hemingway is a big hero of mine. Also, he and I were born in the same town. I hung around Key West for years. I now live about 10 miles from where he is buried. If I ever make it to Cuba, my journey will be complete.
It was Karl Walinda that said "the tight wire is life, everything else is just waiting". Steve McQueen changed it to "racing"
An old Pilot once said, "you can never have too much fuel, unless you are on fire". I think that would also be a good quote for racing

My favourite quote has to be from Larry Perkins: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Perkins
On being asked by a ditzy reporter what his tactics were for the Bathurst 1000 race, LP glared at her and said: "Stay in front and don't crash".
Simple, huh?

Race Car
You can go just as fast in the wet as in the Dry, you just can't brake or turn very well....
anyone can go fast in a straight line...
&
'I started racing in Dragsters, and the faster I got, the quicker my ride was over... then I started road racing, and got a lot more for my money.
-All from Terry Earwood, my skippy instructor in 1995.

"When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible."
