Default Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix cancelled for 2009

Indycar and ALMS race gone, but the poor road course won't be missed. How about a race instead at Portland International Raceway or Michigan International Speedway?

I wish they would bring anything to Portland. We lost CART this year and ALMS a few years back.

It's too bad. Penske put on a tremendous event in Detroit...probably third only to Sebring and Petit on the ALMS schedule in terms of "the show".

I loved going to Portland (the city) every year. Great great town. But, PIR (the facility) left a lot to be desired, and it was one of the few annual events that seemed to be moving backward from a fan interest standpoint.

Given that Mosport is the weekend before the cancelled Detroit race, my short wish list would include Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Mont Tremblant. But, there's little chance that an event will be added at this late date. Besides, the teams are probably saying, "Awesome! We just saved a few hundred thousand dollars that we didn't have anyway."

I agree, each year I always looked forward to going to Portland, this year being the first in 7 years I didnt go. I like the town, the area but the track was narrow. They finally repave it then as luck would have it, it wasnt on our schedule

PLEASE come back to Portland.

The track is not any wider, but it is repaved and has a slightly different turn 6-7 configuration.

My parents live in Detroit (I grew up there) and I attended the 07 Belle Isle GP.... the LeMans part anyway. Detroit is hurting... dying in fact.
