Default Need another hotel for RRR - What do you look for in a hotel anyway?

We have enjoyed staying at the Holiday Inn for $79 a night. I just spoke to them and they would appreciate it, if we stayed at their sister hotel nearby for that price -- or if we want to stay with them, we can - but at a price hike for '09.

For those of you that stay near Roebling - do you have any suggestions?

We look for
Ample parking
Reasonably priced
Good beds
Cleanliness
Breakfast and
Hospitality/Meeting Room

A few have come up to bid for us -- but, I would like to know, as a participant at a track event - those of you who still stay in a hotel (No RVers need apply LOL) - what do you look for?

Clean, quiet, relatively close to the track and reasonable price. Oh, and it has to be the place where the Pit Babes are staying.

Cheap.
Close to the track.
Track registration in the lobby.
Parking 3 feet from your motel room door.
Cigars and refreshments with the guys in the parking lot.

I agree. Does that mean the Manor Ho is the perfect track motel?

I thought the Red Roof Inn was host to most events at Roebling? Hopefully they have internet by now! That was the only thing they were missing. Otherwise, there is the Microtel at the next exit. They aren't the most luxurious but they have all the basics : internet, t.v. , shower , bed and breakfast and a cheap price.

I hope the Red Roof has improved - but we left there a few years ago. We had too many problems - including lifting our block of rooms, renting them to other people so only 2 of our participants could stay there that time. It was sad...

I've not heard anyone enjoy staying at the Microtel - except when it was brand new...

In the past 3 years they've built about 14 new hotels in the area - I'm hoping someone here has spent some time in some of them.

From some of the other places I'm getting feelers - it looks like Sleep-Inn is really appreciated - new and a call in directly to the hotel for $46 a night...

I'm going to go to the area next week and see what's up... if anyone wants a follow up it's okay to 1/1 me...

The Jameson Inn - in Pooler. It is clean, moderately priced, there is a Crapper Barrel Restaurant right there for breakfast. Just pull out of the parking lot and turn right and you are headed straight to the track.

We stayed at the Jameson last year and it was ...ok.
If the Sleep Inn down there is anything like the one in Danville, VA (for VIR) it would be worth it.
Plesae keep us posted as I'm going back in Feb.

Sounds like you'll be at the Citrus DE.

Audi Club used Sleep-Inn and said nice things....

For some of you, so sorry - I got rid of one hotel a long time ago - now I see you probably loved it... it was the one where at about 3 or 4 in the morning, the hookers in their heels would be clacking about, knocking on doors and offering $10 BJs....

Most of the older hotels are in need of renovations - or at the minimum new beds...

Anyone else out there know about any of the new ones?

So far - I've been asked to check out
Southern Suites
Sleep-Inn
Best Western
Travel Lodge
Comfort Inn

Some are near the Savannah airport - the rest are near the Mighty 8th.

I'm still open for suggestions... Looks like I'll have a busy day making appointments and dropping in...

BTW - thank you for contributing to this thread. It truly is appreciated.

At your last event, we stayed at the Sleep Inn and didn't have any issues. Parking might be a little tight for the trailers but then ... there is the Holiday Inn next door with the larger lot >

Thank you and nice to know no issues have come up.

I'm writing up a list of the pros and cons and will go and visit the hotels. So far the list consists of rooms with a maximum of $79.

Travelodge Suites, Pooler (Mighty 8th)
Hawthorn Suites, Pooler (Airport)
Best Western Bradbury Suites (Mighty 8th)
Quality Inn Conference Center (Mighty 8th) (This use to be the Comfort Inn we use to stay at)
Comfort Inn (Airport) - Sister hotel to Holiday Inn we were staying at
Sleep Inn (Mighty 8th)
Springhill Suites (Airport)

Some of these are new, some are old -- looks like I have my work cut out for me. Since you've been with us before, you know we don't want to give up a hospitality suite - and we don't want to be taken to the cleaners...

+1

I stayed there at your November event as well.

I will be there again in 4 weeks for Florida Crown DE.

I don't recall there being a "breakout room" there that would accomodate the usual Dark Side crowd.

Tom - thanks for your input :-)

I'm visiting the Hawthorn tomorrow - it's by the airport and they really, really want us. Felt good talking to a manager that likes car people. They are over by the airport - near the Sam Snead restaurant.

Meanwhile, did I tell you - I started something new - pre-registration for DS on clubregistration.net -- payment is expected in February - but you can reserve a spot and a number :-) Hint Hint (I know, I'm shameless... LOL)
