Post Hood Sock

Its been hot the last couple of AutoX's
and I've been looking for a way to
manage the sweat and save some
wear and tear on my helmet.

Nomex balaclava would certainly work, but
expensive for just AutoX.

"Discovered" painters hood socks at
local hardware store. Essentially
a 100% cotton balaclava. $1.49.

Absolutely no substitute for Nomex
where warranted but seems like it will
fit the need for AutoX.

So your times are slow enough that you're on the course long enough to work up a sweat?

I would guess that if a auto-X does not require an SA rated helmet, they do not require nomex, so you should be good. Wheel to wheel racing requires Nomex, so it would be a no go. SA rating means the helmet is lined with nomex, MA, or motorcycle rated is not nomex lined.

The differences between the two standards are that SA-rated helmets undergo a flammability test (hence the nomex), have a narrower field of vision than M-rated helmets, and have a rollbar impact test.
