Post Cup Car Club

I am wanting general opinions about the feasability of forming a Drivers Ed "club" with 15-20 members.

This would not be for the financial faint of heart, but would provide a chance to experience new GT3 Cup cars without the up front $120K.

Preliminary budget would have 15 people paying about $25K up front plus $1500 per month. This cost would include everything (mechanic/storage/maintenance/DE fees) You just show up at the track, about 12 times per year.

Each member would be an equal owner, able to take depreciation on their share of the equipment, etc.

I am not tring to make a dime, just gather opinions.

Thanks

Chris,

Are you talking each of the 15 paying $25K up front plus another $18K each per year ($1500x12) for maintenance and other costs? or each of the 15 sharing a $25K pot up front and each contributing $100 per month?

If the former, that's $375K up front, enough to buy 3 cars (or 2 cars, new tow vehicle, new trailer, plus spares), with another $270K for maintenance/storage/etc, which seems a little on the high side. If the latter, doesn't sound like enough to cover one car, unless you're sharing your own cup car, and taking that into account.

The person that honcho's something like this, ie, mechanic/trailer driver/head bottle washer may not get to drive themselves. When you have people paying for a car, they want it to run, and get anxious when it doesn't.

It's an interesting thought, however. With the right group of people at the right price point, it might work.

My "idea" has 15 people, each paying $25K upfront, and each paying $1500 per month.

This would include three new cup cars, transort for the cars, and all of the maintenance, entry fees, and a full time mechanic/crew chief.

I know its quite a bit of $$ but I know lots of guys who spend this every month on GOLF for crying out loud!!
