Post Oil Cooler Fan - 3.6l 964

I am considering removing the fan from the front-mounted oil cooler on my race 964. As I understand it, this fan is only of use when there is insufficient air flow through the cooler. I can see how this is needed in road driving around town etc, but reason that on a race track (once uderway) it is just extra weight.
Has anyone done this? Any reason that it needs to stay?
Thanks
Stephen
