Default Touareg Brake Controller

I was wondering if any of you Touareg owners could tell me about your install of your brake controller. I have heard there are some issues. Thanks.

It depends on the brake controller and MY of the vehicle.
There are some issues with Prodigy controllers, all others work just fine.

It's been discussed in the Cayenne forum, along with detailed installation instructions and part numbers for connectors and housings.

I know a guy here who tracks a GT3 and tows it with a Cayenne (essentially the same as a Touareg). He tells me that it was very difficult integrating his brake controller in with the electrical system of the Cayenne.

Oh, so it's a Prodigy controller with a Cayenne/Touareg issue.

Must be. I do not know the brand of controller he has. However, I saw it, and do not recall it being the compact Prodigy model. It was more the old-school bulky black one that we have been using for years, IIRC.

Get a regular analog Draw-Tite controller and use the VW socket (discussed ad nauseum in old Cayenne forum threads). No issues with the brakes- now, the number of lights on the trailer, that's another issue...

There are a few issues, which have been documented by rennlist member/Cayenne owner 'JFScheck' in the past.

The 'diagnostics' in the Prodigy would sometimes not get along with the integrated bulb diagnostics in the Cayenne (re: !), so the workaround was to connect the Prodigy directly to the brake switch and NOT the line provided in the 4 pin controller connector under the dash. There was a very good photo install DIY on this workaround.

However, when PAG removed the brake switch on the pedal and integrated the function into the master cylinder, the workaround no longer applied.

As 'skl' mentioned, if you use a standard analog electric brake controller, you will have none of these issues.

As for trailer lights..........

There are no issues if your dealer knows what they're doing. Search for posts re: brake controllers here:

I use this one:
