GMG Racing: Porsche 918 in for Weissach parts + carbon interior + skidplates

This 918 was brought to us in stock form. While a stock 918 is an incredible machine, our client wanted to up the “exotic factor” by a couple degrees.

Starting out, we were able to source a host of 918 Weissach components through Porsche. This included the magnesium wheels, carbon rear wing, carbon front fender vent tabs, carbon rear winglets, etc.

The car, partway through its exterior transformation.

The massive carbon wing and rear winglets made it here safely after their trip over the Atlantic.

Front fender vent tabs.

Rather than stop there with the exterior, we teamed up with MA Carbon to keep the carbon fiber theme rolling. On the outside they came through with carbon side mirrors and roof panels.

Door mirrors having the mechanicals swapped.

Roof panels.

INTERIOR

The interior saw the most dramatic change from a driver’s perspective. The unsightly plastic components that made up the steering column were swapped out for their carbon counter-parts (this included the integrated and extended carbon shifter paddles). A matching carbon fiber and alcantara-trimmed steering wheel was bolted in place. The stunning result speaks for itself.

Before

AFTER

For a more functional modification, we installed our new skid plates under the nose of the car. These sacrificial plates are made from machine-grade ABS. They do a great job of protecting the car’s front lip from speed bumps and curbs!

As a last protective measure, a layer of XPel Stealth was laid over the exterior. The matte finish really served to enunciated curves and edges that are lost with glossy paint. To be honest, as a former automotive design student, I don’t like a matte finish on most cars (the BMW GTS being case-in-point). However, the Carrera GT and the 918 are glaring exceptions. With the matte finish the 918 takes on an almost sculptural quality.

With our mission complete, the car has been returned to the clients care. If you have any questions regarding the build or any of the components used therein, feel free to shoot me an email.

Nice work, agree on the matte, it works well on that car. How about a thread on that DP in the 930 section? Please?

Oh wow! The owner definitely spend a lot of $$$$ on all these OEM carbon fiber parts! The only part that is a dead giveaway this car is not a Weissach car is the painted windshield frame.

Hahaha, now I've seen everything. That is a neat bit of kit.

Unfortunately, we do not have skid plates for the CGT at the moment. We would be happy to make them though (the car would need to spend a day at our facilities).

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew, what would the cost be for CGT skid plates? I'm local to OC.

Yes, yes there is. Call it a dose of mid-two-thousands nostalgia.
