hooooold on a tic...

did anyone notice the little gulf-painted model of a coupe? 918?... what was that thing?

oh, and sorry for the potentially intrusive question... but why two 918? there aren't other cars of a different variety you'd like to add?

It would seems like that's the standard lunch menu for all the 918 customers that visit the factory. Exactly the same one I had last September.

I have a theory after googling around, but still don't know with 100% certainty what this button is for:

My Macan has a button kinda like that in which i have no idea what it does or care to look it up in the manual..
My 15 month old son presses it from time to time and nothing happens that i can notice...
I was hoping it was a "make it rain" button in which dollar bills would going flying around everywhere.. but no such luck..

Love the POV on the 918 build! For an owner to take the time to share with the rennlist porsche community is just awesome and really appreciate it as not many would take the time or care to share the experience.

Going to see it on the line is how i would do it! Part of history!

I was there 3 days ago and I think I saw your car about 3 stations from completion. Looks like wheels (black?) were next. Stunning!
As requested I did not take an close up pics of other cars but one can see the matte black car to the right in this wide-shot (sorry for the large format pics):

Here is the line after hours:

The visit was well done and I'm feeling pretty lucky to be part of the 918 experience!
Here is my car underway. White Weissach with red/black interior.

Anyone else going soon?

I am so glad you guys have the experience of a life time to visit the factory while your car is being built. It is something that one will remember forever.

The 918 RSR was a prototype that was shown around in the US in 2011, starting at the 'Detroit Auto Show' that year:

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/por...18-spyder-news

And even made it to Carmel that August at the Porsche Zentrum, where many of us saw it in person! Rennlister Mile2424 compiled a beautiful set of photos of it that he posted here on our forum:

https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...many-pics.html

The blue color on this vehicle is 'Liquid Metal Chrome Blue', which turned out to be the pricey $63K optional color offered today on the 918 Spyder! We first saw that color debut on this vehicle.

And the RSR prototype sported enough 'orange' to create a faux 'Gulf' livery look from afar...or from looking at a photo of a toy model.

Nothing much ever came of this 'idea'. It was never raced or anything like that. So you did not missed 'much'!

Saludos,
Eduardo

It is not in the 918, it is in an Audi A8 which was driven by a chauffeur.
