It is a custom leather weave, homage to the old houndstooth and plaid interiors.

Fantastic, my single favorite part of a Singer is the copious use of Spinnybeck woven leather. The pattern you chose looks incredible. It will smell nice in there.

It is fairly robust. The weave is attached to a nice backing material. Pants with buckles are probably not advised though.

A good friend of mine is helping me do something similar for my personal project. He does the leather weaving for the fancy jackets Porsche sometimes offers.
