I had a long conversation with a Porsche dealer.

Told him my fear was speculators buying these cars dealers or otherwise.

He guaranteed me as other owners here have stated every 918 will have a customers name prior to production.

It's great if they rise in price - good for the guys that trusted Porsche.

But let me add if the **** hit the fan speculators / dealers would be selling their interest at any price especially with so little skin in the game if they did which I believe lower deposits.

I now have little desire for a 918 - for no other reason than the perception of driving a 1M car and before anyone gets upset simply look at all the guys here who started a closed FB page. Being in a smaller city that thread woke me up.

First of all, the deposit was always 200K, not 250K. Second, a few of my friends put down a deposit as one of the last 300 cars and they all had to shell out 200K on deposit.

My local dealer tried to buy an used 918 from another Porsche dealer and was forbidden by PCNA from doing so. In any market, it will be very difficult to stop the speculators, but I think PCNA is doing everything it can to preserve the 918 market.

I'm not surprised at this. As far as I know, there are no 918 available at MSRP anymore. As for the Long Island Porsche dealer asking for $1 million over sticker on its 918, he clearly look at things very differently than I do!

What's to stop the owner of the dealer in buying one or more and then flipping them through their dealership? A part of me is getting tired of the bubble pricing on all these Porsches (even if I have benefited from owning an RS).

Technically, each dealer's principal can only buy one car. But often, each dealer has 2 or 3 principals, and they can all purchase one 918 each. A principal's name will need to be assigned to the individual 918, so the same name cannot be used twice.

My dealer, for example, have 2 principals, so they had 2 cars coming in as dealer principal's cars. Near the end of the 918 sales run (when all of the US allocations ran out), my dealer just sold their cars to the customers directly at MSRP.

Often if you see a black on black (or silver on black) 918 with zero options (or just with a lift system), there is a good chance that it was a dealer principal car. This is because back then, dealers were "persuaded" by PCNA to take in a car. At that time, many Porsche dealers weren't so sure on how well the 918 can sell in the marketplace, so they just ordered the most basic car.

Not true on the deposit, mine was a late allocation and it was full deposit for everyone. In fact before they would grant the allocation the wire had to be completed.

Which sales guy misinformed you in this way? Sounds like a second rate dealer.

Same as rest of Europe, Eur 648k + Options + VAT

Which works out quite well for a UK based buyer...when I started looking at the car the price of my specced car was around 680k GBP, today it is 590k GBP

ευχαριστίες to my greek friends and Grazie to my fellow citizen Mario Draghi!
