I have an article with S-JD 5605 being tested and think this a S, no electric windows, AC, nor hydraulic pump, cloth sport seats (heating), no rear seats.
But he preproduction cars are certainly not so easy to categorize as the production cars.
I doubt the grey one is an original S. The cage and harnesses are not the right models by example.
About S-JD 5605: you are probably correct.... It was probably a pre-production EURO Sport model.
Here is a picture of the engine compartment, if you look on the left side, it does not have the "yellow" pull for the flap on the rear left fender... given that it was an early car, they probably did not make the left rear fender without the flap yet.
About the Silver Komfort model you referred to in previous posts: By definition it is not a Sport.. it is a Komfort model. Its reference to being a "Lightweight" is misguided. At best, this could be a Komfort model with lightweight door panels with electric window controls like the USA Sport. And i agree with you, the Roll Cage/Bar is not the same as the ones installed in the USA Sports.
Can someone elaborate on the story behind the stage 2 turbo upgrade made available by Porsche.
I have heard that it was offered as a response to the F40, is there any truth to this?
At the urging of a Swiss or Swedish Client (i am not sure which), Porsche did in fact offer a Stage 2 upgrade. It was in response to Ferrari making a claim that the F40 went 201 mph, passing the magic 200 mph mark.... and thereby beating Porsche's claim of 197 mph. Porsche being Porsche, their figure of 197 mph was conservative as most top speed's reached by the automotive press for the 959 averaged out to 199 mph. Ferrari being Ferrari... their claim of 201mph is suspect.
The Stage 2 program were all done by Engineer Willrett, he did all of the conversions both in and out of the factory. He was a Porsche engineer who was deeply involved in the development of both the 935 and 935 racing engines and who worked under Rolf Sprenger in the Sonderwisches (Special Wishes) Program.
The upgrade consisted of two larger Turbochargers, and an ECU reprogramming, both almost identical (if not identical) to the parts specified for the Porsche 961 Racecar:
It is not well documented how many "Stage 2" cars exist, people put the figure at 15… but i believe the figure is closer to 25 (I know of 22).

Thanks for the info, from what I've heard it raises HP to 530 and gives a top speed of about 207.
The Porsche Classic Center still offers the stage 2 upgrade. I've elected to have it installed in the 959 I have with them.
The car has been there for just over 2 years now and nearing completion.
Can't wait to pick it up

Top Speed results show between 207 - 214 mph
So your figures are correct. The power comes on later then the earlier spooling of the stock turbo's. My recommendation: Drive, and Enjoy your 959 on the Autobahn when it is ready.... enjoy Europe (before the EU falls apart)....and then... if you feel the power is "lacking", you could always go for the upgrade.

I had a chance to drive my 959 a little before dropping it off at Porsche.
The car definitely doesn't need the extra power, but honestly I like the history behind it, and feel like the stage 2 makes the car that much more special. I doubt I'd even use all the power a 'stock' 959 offers but have decided to go ahead with the stage 2

My 59 has been clocked at 330 km/h with the stock engine.
Also compared it, at the track, with the White S that we have here in sweden.
Very similar performance.
I think its a reason why porsche says it have an lower topspeed.
And why they call the first gear Gelände, and have the hydralic suspension to make it an off road car....
