I dont agree with the pricing method either. A well maintained CGT of each year should be worth the same and will be with time. They dont have enough differences. I actually like the 04 cars more. They have the blue tint rear windows.....

Your car at 300K is a steal no matter what. $40K for a major and new clutch possibly brakes and tires. Get a sick detail and boom you have a like new racecar. These are the Gullwings of modern times. In time miles will not affect it much as long as it is up to date with service. These are million dollar cars 15-20 yrs from now. Nothing else like it or ever will be like it. I will get a second, an 05 just to spread out the risk hahahahahah.

I agree with this 1000%. If these cars are not approaching a million in ten years I will be surprised. Nothing ever built like these accepting maybe the McLaren F1 and we see where those are now. The CGT is the LAST of its kind. Just read the EVO article and remember that ONE line. "Nearly a decade on and the Porsche still feels like something from the future"

My car is an early 04 car. First clutch still, 6500 miles. New supersports, gen One brakes too. Its wildly fast and more than anything you can safely exploit on the street. It looks like a prototype from the future. It is incredibly simple and beautiful. It is a home run of a sports car. Maybe the best ever considering it is somewhat attainable, for the time being.

The clutch glazes sometimes, and I know they do for the later cars as well if you slip it. Do you know porsche recommends the new clutch break-in procedure to cure it? It involves launching the car first through third gear full power and then cooling down the clutch.

I slipped it once on a hill. Then the car started to slip in the very upper end in third or fourth at full throttle. The clutch is plenty thick and I complained. Porsche Germany sent a procedure for a new clutch break in. They said do this and it will be fine. Well I did it and its been perfect since.

Its not the safest thing to do in public but hey, sometimes you need to get around without a slipping clutch right??

I wonder how many ppl were convinced they needed a new clutch because it was slipping? Unless you've done such a poor job and have shaved it down past the recommended thickness, it really lasts.

Its a fickle thing, but that makes it charming way beyond most cars. The CGT is a racecar do not kid yourself. It is easy to drive once you get used to it. Tricky on hills but otherwise a very very unique set up. It revs like WILD so watch those revs gentlemen.

You may want to check your rear main seal, they can leak and cause clutch to get oily and slip.

having just bought one recently and performed some maintenance and minor repairs, I think these are 350k cars in today's market. You can pay less for a high mileage one (above 6000?) or more for a garage queen (a few hundred miles) but you will end up somewhere above/below 350k after you address all the issues associated with either mileage or storage. Of course this estimate does not apply to cars with major mileage/issues or questionable histories.

Isn't that limited to flat 6 Porsche engines? I've never heard of a rear main seal going bad on a Carrera GT.

I had a case of clutch glazing that was cured by a few laps on the track followed by a cool-down. Works like a champ - still.

My dealer had 2 main seal replacements in the last month. Both sub 3k mile cars. Even if the car sits the mian seal shouldnt go out this early in its life. Porsche is known for rms issues.

Interesting thread. I hope some day to own one. Carrera GT said that there were no replacement tubs, is this true? I guess if one of these cars were involved in a bad accident and the tub got damaged, insurance company would total it. Or can it be fixed?

The sale data I had supported this conclusion. Some guesses on why:

1. Perception the first year had some issues which were fixed later.
2. Several forums had posts about updates to the ECU making the clutch better in 2005 (I dont know if that's true or not).
