engine out for valve adjustments?
Anybody know what the CGT maintenance schedule looks like yet? I was talking to someone that had toured the CGT line in Leipzig and he told me that the engine has to come out for valve adjustments. That's gotta make for a rather expensive service. Apparently hydraulic lifters/followers are OK for the GT3 motor but the GCT gets solid ones. At least you can probably use regular Mobil 1 oil rather than the $60/qt stuff from the Enzo.

Steve,
I find it hard to believe in 2004 a Porsche is using solid lifters. That gives me flashbacks to my youth and musclecars and backaches from leaning over the engine adjusting my valves.

The Porsche web site says this about the valve train:
"The camshafts are driven by a chain and gear system to help minimize engine noise. This solution, combined with rigid tappets, creates a much stiffer valvetrain with lighter oscillating masses and more compact external dimensions. "
Indeed, no hydraulic lifters on this engine!
More engine info here.

Even if it is every 2k miles, I am sure the cars (unfortunately) wont rack up many miles yearly?? I hope I am wrong in saying that..
I am sure Porsche service will cost much less that the equivalent of Ferrari..

^^^ wow... neat stuff. I am seriously worried about the friction that would encounter though. Ceramic carbon coatings, blaw blaw blaw. Unless that stuff is slicker than snot, its gonna creat alot of heat. Also seems like it would lose low end torque, but maybe not. I would have to see it running and side to side dynos with ONLY that changed... their data seems to be a stock versus built up engine with their stuff... I dont know of many conrods built for 6000RPM that are happy at 14000RPM....
If their product is as good as the claims though, good things are ahead. At least until continuously adjustable solenoid valves are finished.
