Default Sunvisor Warning Decal Removal

Has anyone been able to remove the warning decals off their sunvisors? I find them quite distracting against the Agate Grey visors in my '17 Macan GTS. The new decals seem impervious to anything I've used before. Before using anything aggressive, I was wondering what others have done.

There's a thread on this in the 991 forum. It's pretty simple. Soak a rag in 91% Isopropyl rubbing alcohol, lay and hold it on the sticker for about 60 seconds, soaking the sticker. Don't rub, keep it firmly covering the sticker. Then gently peel up a corner and peel the thing off. The sticker should then peel off as one sheet or a few big pieces.

I did three cars this way, and all but one sticker came off pretty easy. The first was a pain because I didn't soak the rag/sticker, I just rubbed the alcohol on. It came off slowly in little pieces.

I saw that thread. The '17 stickers on the Macans seem impervious to that method.

Are you using rubbing alcohol from your first aide kit, or denaturede alcohol from the hardware store (paint aisle). Or Miller Lite?

Are you sure they're stickers and that Porsxhe hasn't started printing them directly on like some other mfgrs?

Hah! Why waste a beer? What should I be using, denatured alcohol from the hardware store or isopropyl from the drug store? Or should it matter?

Do your visors look like the ones in the link above? Or is Porsche now doing something different?

Post a picture.

As long as the isopropyl is strong (70% or higher) it should work. Dewll time is key.

Admittedly I didn't try very hard. Maybe attempt again this weekend and really soak it. Here's a pic.

It works! Although it's probably easier to "heat up" the visor before you rub the alcohol on it (extend the visor and park under the sun). It took me about 15 minutes to do one and I will try to do the other side later. The sticker is like a foil type material and very very thin. I do have some glue residue that I need to clean off but it does work.

I would get the 91%, makes a big difference. And instead if a rag, soak a small sponge and leave it lying on the sticker. You can just keep dribbling more isopropyl on as needed. Be patient. The sponge will keep constant, even distribution of the liquid and make things go faster.

I don't have a Macan GTS (let alone a Macan), but I do have a Cayenne GTS, and I also had a bear of a time removing the stickers from my alcantara visors. I've done this before on leather and vinyl with success, but the alcantara was left with the fibers matted down. After trying to restore the finish, I gave up.

I called a few dealerships for price quotes, and was quoted outrageous amounts (like $900+ per side). Then I saw something pop up in a search for Sunset Porsche: (I think) Cayman alcantara visors for much lower. I called them for the Cayenne parts, and I was surprised by the low price: less than $300 per side.

Parts showed up in about 2w, and install took <10 minutes per side. Exactly like the originals except for the stickers. These are the same part numbers other dealers were quoting multiple times more...

No relationship with Sunset except as a happy customer.

OK, I went and got some 91% isopropyl, used a sponge, soaked it for a good 5 minutes, and there is zero effect on the sticker. It's perfectly stuck, with no bubbling, peeling or any sign of loosening or softening whatsoever. They must have changed the material and method of sticking it on. Not sure what to try next, as I also don't want to ruin the visor and have to buy a replacement.
