Introducing the Avery Dennison Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car
We'd like to introduce the Avery Dennison Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car. Expect to see her out in SoCal during the 2017 racing season.
Some of you might be familiar with this car in its former guise. This is a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. It used to wear Team Blackstar graphics while it worked the SoCal race scene for over 2 years alongside its twin brother. Twins are not exactly like, therefore this one had a black hood instead of red along with a few other nuances.
After the GT3 Cup sold, the new owner, who tracks it heavily continued using a modified rendition of the Blackstar livery, with no Blackstar logos. Eventually, it was time for a complete refresh. Not only was the car getting major mechanical improvements, the body was also worked, and to top if off, it needed a new livery.
Given the previous designs for this 911 GT3 Cup were all done by Kyle from KI Studios at the Protective Film Solution San Diego location, it was only fitting it go back there for this new iteration.
We approached Avery Dennison to work with us on the new livery, exclusively using Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film. Three colors where chosen: Pearl Black, Pearl White and Gloss Lime Green. Two designers at PFS San Diego created mockups of the new design and soon both ideas were merged into one. The new Avery Dennison racing livery was born.
The new wrap was fully layered. This is quite a bit of work compared to using a single printed design. In a few days we had completed the job, including the wrapping of an extra bumper. The design was done so that the front and rear bumpers would be a solid color. Since these race cars suffer from a lot of contact out on the track, replacing bumpers is a lot easier when you can just wrap it with a solid color.
The video below talks a bit about the car, the design and the thought behind it. Then check out the photos that follow for the full wrap process.

Sorry OP.
They are, or were, decals. To be precise, Mini headlights decals I found online.
They have since been placed with LED lights.

No worries on the slight change of topic. It's actually relevant. I think you're talking about the rings around the headlights right? On Ritter's car. I know there are a number of options for trim like that around the web. However, Kyle, who manages Protective Film Solutions San Diego, sells headlight trim vinyl in any color, for 987 and 997.
Looks like this:

By the way, we have photos coming of the Avery 997 Cup Car from The Thermal Club from this weekend. Just spoke to Robert Grubbs (Grubbs Photography) and he said he took some awesome shots. Stay tuned. We'll drop them here as soon as we have them.
