I have just bought a 996 GT3 Cup Rally car 2003 is it a Mk1 or 2 and how do you tell and what is the difference

03 started Newer style headlights, center outlet exhaust, later model have frame on door where window would be, early model has no frame. Little diff on front bumper but harder to recognize. More stuff on motor and inside....

Are you sure it's a real cup car? Plenty of converted street cars being used for rally.
Better check the VIN.

IIRC the cage didn't change until the 04-05' MY and it was just to accommodate the Hans harness angle....

VIN on mine is identical except for the 2 last numbers.
