I'm pretty sure GTGears is talking about the auto-blipper, it's effectively an adjustable rod that connects the bump shifter to the throttle pedal. Allowing you to downshift without having to heel toe.

The auto-blipper is a part from Porsche Motorsports or you can find a few teams who have designed and built their own. Much cheaper than a full blown paddle system you're talking about.

Think this is apples vs oranges.

Blipper vs paddle shift.

Thanks

You said blipper. A paddle shift kit is 5 figures. A blipper is less than $2k.

EDIT: Guess I should have read other replies before posting...

Like GTgears alluded, a paddle shift conversion is more like 14,000 + Euro ($15,000 USD).

My 997 has an auto blipper, but I'm adding the paddle shift for a different level of protection. The conversion includes software that prevents over revs during downshifts.

A worthwhile investment for better gearbox AND engine life, IMO.

I bought my 996 CUP 2 years ago for 50k. Ended up rebuilding both the engine and the gearbox plus replaced a lot of other stuff. It is now very well sorted and I have about 90k in it. I've had a true love and hate relationship with the car. It is fast and I was able to get it easily up to speed but the last 2 seconds I could not find. The car would just push and/or jump around. I thought I just can't drive it and wanted to sell it.

It wasn't until I did the best investement ever; I hired a pro to coach me.
Turned out I was driving the car way wrong.
My problem was corner entry, I would scrub off too much speed and consequently get on the gas too early. Car would not rotate (it would just push) and my exist sucked big time.

As soon as I started trusting the grip of the slicks and I carried more speed into the corner, got the car rotating, waited patiently until the nose was pointed in the right direction and then get on the gas. BANG! 2 seconds off the lap times just like that and no more pushing and jumping around.

Now I'm in love with the car!!

Juha that is an excellent point! I haven't perfected it yet but it is fun trying and when I get it right it makes a big difference. Coaches are worth it!!

I agree on the help from coaches. Having most of my experience with a front engine V8 I needed to learn this car. Craig Stanton has been a long time friend and he helped a bunch. Mostly convincing me to hammer the throttle and drive it harder. Something my 928 did not react well to.

Juha has it right. These cars are best driven hard and fast. The aero seems to kick in best in the fast corners if you maintain higher entry speeds.

A cup car will punish you for being meek. You need to be very decisive. Grit your teeth and just go.

Fortunately I married a woman like that, so I adapted to the cup car very quickly.

Thanks

Ed

Lots of good examples out there, many more 7's than 6's...

Can get you into some great early 7's 80-95k
Late 7's 110-135 for great examples

6's 65- 110

That being said I've got 3 miatas,2 6 cups, 1 7 cup and a ptg m3 gts2/3 car....so I've got issues.

The 6's are ex vanoverbeek first g&w/flying lizard speed vision car, the other is Carl Akins 1 of2 guards red from the factory....it's just stupid at this point, 3.8 gt3r intake big wing big rubber etc...

Hope that helps, any additional questions don't hesitate to ask, will be glad to answer here.

what ptg car?
