I have always torqued the center nut on the black axles to 375 ft.lbs without any issues whatsoever. This is on a 5 lug fwiw. I change them every 20 track days or so.

Skibum, any chance that you are using super-duper thread lube or anti-seize, which causes the nut to just keep turning until you pull the thread apart?

We are just using a dab of optimoly on the threads of the stub axle. Trust me, I thought of that, but we put a dab of it on the old axle when putting it on and it torqued fine, as did the new one on the driver's side.

Ed, we thought of that as well-that maybe the wheel bearing or how it was seated was the culprit, but it looks fine (the back side of the wheel carrier).
FFaust, the threads are not failing, it is the axle that is failing, just central to the threads (in the same location as most of the on track failures mentioned before.

It would have been interesting to do a dye penetrant prior to installation to see if there were any indications.

can anyone chime in with thoughts on hub and upright intervals for the 996 cup?
