What happened to PCA GTC3 (996 cup) class?

I don't know, it's been there since 04.
Never made any difference for me. The additional shifts required in the short box cars seemed to cancel out the time saved by the short gearing. The short gear cars had a bit of a jump on the starts however.

The best point made yet by one of the best drivers.
Not cheap to keep up with the routine maintenance and consumables, time-out suspension replacement, 2 sets of slicks each weekend, etc let alone the eventual motor rebuild, gearbox rebuild, shock rebuild, axle replacement, air jack rebuilds, the list goes on. And, this is if nothing goes wrong.
Bottom line is that they don't drive like any other car on the road and so it's fitting that they don't cost to run like any other car on the road. Add to this the increasing value of the cars and I think the answer starts to get clearer.

Yes the 6 cup is a blast! Cost of any race car is not for the faint of heart! I try not to add up the costs.I let Scotto do that!Fun factor is thru the roof. The last of the h shift pattern adds another dimension to racing.
Not as fast as paddles or sequential. But Bob and I seem to keep up ok!
I just joined NASA to hopefully find some more 6cups to run with.Bob will follow suit soon!

I believe in stock form and weight it's gts5 . There are guys who use a restrictor plate to run 4 .

I use a restrictor and run in NASA GTS 4...320 RWHP and weight at 2860 lbs. GTS 5 will put you in the 997 cup playground and most have upgraded to paddle shifters and ABS so they are pretty tough to match in a 996 cup. In GTS 4 my car is a consistent podium finisher.

I sent in my objection to the rule change. My car is a Supercup car (won the championship in '03) and damned if I'm changing anything on it. The notion that these gearboxes get rebuilt frequently enough that everyone will be in compliance in a year is a joke, too.
Speaking of Cup car costs: I signed up for two races this year and missed both with things to be fixed on the car. These cars are starting to get old! I suspect I will need an engine rebuild very soon. Won't that be fun.

Thank you all for the education!
I just joined Rennlist to look for a track dedicated car that I could eventually race once I finally have my PCA license. Have been doing all the Skip Barber training but they don't seem to value that very much. I have a 2015 911 GTS which is an absolute blast on DE Days but I don't ever see myself trying to race it. Was considering buying a 996 Cup Car as there are a few for sale at what seems to be a reasonable price but the info on the running costs and what was Spec and not was invaluable. Thank you all for the education!!! Tommy Dean - I had the pleasure of watching you blast by last Sunday as I worked Corner five at the Rocky Mountain Thunder Race. Best regards, gary
