Default How to attach late 996 Cup Door Windows

I looking for input on how to attach (so they are easily removable) lexan door windows to an '04 996 Cup with window frames on the doors. Some kind of quick release?

How were these attached by the factory, there is nothing to explain this in the Cuo manual or parts list.

These will only be on the car in a rain race or standing outside at the track, so not very often

Please post pics if available.

Thanks,

JF

If the holes are already there, it's easy. Buy the lexan windows and dril holes. Fastness and flat heads with lock nuts on the inside

If your 04 is like my 01, you will need to craft some sort of spacer (mine are simple lexan pieces) to go between the mirror and the inside frame when the window is out. Installing these is one more annoying little step when installing/removing windows. So, I just leave windows in.

Riv Nuts can be installed in your door frame, making it easy to install and remove the screws.

I copied something on Wolf Helzler's first World Challenge car and made up some "vent windows" with the trailing edge bent out with a hairdryer, that screw into a few of the window holes when the window was removed:

Were the vent windows to stop rain coming into the car in a race?

Hi Ted:

The setup on your '01 is different , your doors don't have window frames.

I think Farnbacher put them on to me more aerodynamic, so I copied them.

Quick question re: windows for a 996Cup. My 2001 does NOT have the window frame on the door. PET for the 2001 Cup (such as it was back then) shows the door without the window frame and ALSO shows separate parts for WINDOWS - 996-542-511-92 (Left Door Screen) and 996-542-512-92 (Right Door Screen).

I'm guessing these are NLA from PMNA, but I'll ask here, does anyone have these Door Screens or aftermarket ones or even sources/templates for these windows?

I would be interested in buying a set if someone is selling off old 996 Cup parts. And if someone has an aftermarket source they are willing to share, please let me know. Ted in Rochester, did your 01 come with windows? Thanks!

The part numbers for the windows from the '05 Cup parts list are 996.542.511.94 & 996.542.512.94 so different from the early parts. I'm sure PMNA wants a pretty penny for these! BTW I recently priced front bumper lower grills for '04 996 cup, I was quoted $630 each X3 for a simple piece of wire mesh!

I've seen Ted's windows, I'm not sure if they are original but it would probably be fairly simple and inexpensive to make a set out of sheet lexan.
