Question about PDK noises
2014 base CPO Cayman with PDK and 22K+ miles.
I have driven only manual transmission for the past 40+ years, so this is my first PDk car.
I have been surprised at the number of mechanical noises coming from the transmission on low speed downshifts (Specifically, whirrings, whinings and an occasional but distinct "clank" on low speed 2nd to 1st downshifts).
Upshifts are amazingly smooth and drama free.
So, for those of you that have PDK cars, is the transmission noisy at low speeds? Or do I need to have a talk with my dealer?
Thanks in advance...

My '10 987.2S also 'feels' like its 'confused' with low speed 2 to 1 downshifts.
Took it to a well regarded specialist and the owner checked it out and told me his Cayman did the exact same thing.
Checked it out nine ways to Sunday and found nothing wrong (his). He declared it normal behavior.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the feedback..."Confused" is a great description of what I am feeling/hearing...If it's normal, I'm fine...I'll just keep track of it and let the dealer take a listen at the next service.

My 987.2 was like that for years. A throttle reset, which inadvertently occurred after cycling the ignition while playing with my Durametric, transformed the car. Sport mode in particular is much smoother without the clunking when slowing to a standstill and a much smoother throttle action. Perhaps you could try the reset on yours? In my model I believe the ignition had to be turned on, but the engine not started, for one minute. Then cycle the ignition off and back on again. Leave it on for 30 seconds. The throttle body can be heard resetting.

Yep...I must admit to being skeptical, but I did just as AAAC described...Ignition on for 60 seconds with engine not running....Ignition off and then back on....Heard funky clicking from the engine compartment...No more "confusion" and no more clunking at low speeds...

E-Gas calibration needs to be done every once in a while. I don't recall seeing any mention of how often this should be done, in any of the factory service manuals I have (other than it should be done after whenever the battery is disconnected) but my tech sources suggest at least every time I have the car for a service, which I have done every 5K miles.

Those traits are gone now and the transmission is much more "settled" and "stable"at lower speeds, and high speed shifts are just "Oh my goodness!" quick and smooth.

Thanks TMc993.
I have noticed some noises at lower speeds in my PDK, but nothing too bad but me thinks there is no harm in doing this to ensure all is sync'ed up.

My guess (And it is a guess) is that it has to do with synchronization of the actions of the throttle and clutch(es). Before I did the throttle reset, I felt that there was just the slightest mismatch between the actuation of the two at low speeds, particularly gearing down. The result was much like what you get in a manual transmission when you cruise at RPM that are too low in second or third gear and then "bounce" off the CV joints and timing chains.
