Default Porsche Battery Charger Q

New Cayman just stored, New Porsche battery charger. When I first put the charger on the charging orange LED is lit then the next day the Orange LED is flashing and the green fully charged LED is on and steady. Manual does not cover this condition. I phone CTEK and because it is a branded charger they tell you to go to the dealer you bought it from. Porsche techs are not familiar with it. Anyone knows what these lights mean? Everything ok?

Hit the "mode" button until the selector light is under the picture of the car.

The status light should be either orange or green, steady not flashing.

If it's flashing, then check your connections, or unplug it from the wall. Then plug back in and repeat. When the status light is green, you're fully charged. Just keep it plugged in. It's a float charger.

Tks rusak. That is exactly what I do, the status lights starts out orange and when I check it the next day the orange light is flashing fast and the maintenance light is steady green. It is my understanding only one light should be on. Tech support at CTEK sucks.

Sorry, but all of the amateur home made videos reviewing the CTek have major suckage too. I'd recommend forcing yourself to watch them and skip to the part where they explain the lights.

On mine at least, the green charging light stays lit and steady when it's charged. The red selection light stays lit and does not blink. Blinking indicates that there is a problem.

If you try to charge through one of the 12 v ports, late model cars will shut down the connection after 20-30 mins. It has been suggested that a dealer can mod the computer but I've not seen any evidence. My March 2016 build GT4 has this issue, older GT4s don't. Charging directly to the battery terminals works.

Yup. Although I'm not sure locking the doors has anything to do with it. On previous models (like my 2015 CGTS) the 12v outlets would stay "hot" all the time. Your only real option is to attach the battery tender directly to the battery in the frunk. There are a number of posts on how to do this.

It would be easy enough to splice battery clamps onto the output cables. Or any RV place would have 12v socket adaptors that clamp onto the battery. They are used to power 12v accessories.

Is there a generic equivalent of the Porsche charger? Brand name products always cost several times more. TIA

I got this one and it works great. Appears there is a new model available for about $60.

I think any of the CTEK chargers will do you fine. CTEK makes the charger for them to slap their label on and apply the Porsche tax. I bought the
 CTEK 56-959 CTEK 56-959
and really like it. I also got the
8ft extension 8ft extension
to make it easy to get to the battery. The charger even brought what I thought was a dead marine battery that wouldn't hold a charge back to life.

this one can be found at Northern Tool and the reviews on Amazon are excellent. The aspect of desulfating the plates is unique. Just read the reviews.
