Do 2009+ Caymans (no IMS issue) cost a lot more?
Is there a much higher market demand for 2009+ which is reflected in the selling price? I was thinking of getting one in a few years. I wonder when they will start to flatten out in price.

Three Wheelin'
The 987.2 generation was far superior to the early cars, mainly due to the advent of the 9A1 motor sans intermediate shaft, d chunk, oil starvation problems. They will hold value, except for the really high mileage cars, there is one on here for mid $20's with around 80k miles.

During my recent shopping for a Cayman (ended up with a 987.1S), I found there may be a small bump in price for the 987.2 but for the most part they depreciate just like any other relatively new car. The production numbers were just a lot smaller and so you don't see as many on the market. The prices are higher because they are newer. If you want a 987.2 and they're not in your price range, just wait a couple years and they will be. I opted to go ahead and buy a 987.1 and maybe in a few years I'll move on to something newer, or maybe I won't feel the need to but for now I love my Cayman S.

What's D-chunk? And I have a '11 Cayman S. So no oil starvation then?
9A1 motor is lovely. I wish it had more low end torque or a changed map to give it more gas just off idle, but otherwise it's a joy.
It is as close to the old aircooled Porsches that you will find in a water cooled Porsche.

D-chunk was a problem sometimes found in the early M96 engines manufactured in the late nineties for 996 and 986 cars (Carreras and Boxsters). From all I have read it hasn't been a problem since the early 2000s. Certainly it is nothing to be concerned about with any 987 era car.
Due to a manufacturing defect the cylinders were susceptible to a piece of the upper cylinder wall, roughly "D shaped", breaking off.
9A1 engines are improved over the M97 used in the 987.1. However if you do not track your 987.1, the M97 engine has proven to be very reliable.

Makes you wonder what the heck happened to Porsche about the time they were designing the M96. I would probably avoid all cars of that vintage from Porsche, to be honest. Not trying to beat on anyone's car, just making an observation. The cars before, and after that period are just so much better in all respects.

It's got sport chrono. I'm wondering what other goodies come on that car. IMO it won't last long at that price. Can't see the seats, but it has Bi-Xenon headlights, CDR-30 most likely, no PCM.
