Default Value of high mileage 2009 Cayman S

Hi all,

I have a friend trying to sell her 2009 Cayman S. She purchased it in 2011 from a Porsche dealer as a CPO car and has used it as a primary driver. Car is white, no sure about interior, PDK, 79,500 miles, clean title and all stock. I've only seen it once but looked nice.

I am trying to get the option codes from her but wondering what forum members might think is a ballpark asking price for her car? I'm thinking $25-28k.

Nicely optioned IMO. Does it have a good maintenance history?

I think 23-25 grand would be well bought if no surprises. And 26-28 grand is a good price. The 9A1 engine and PDK tranny have proven very robust and I would have no concerns with a decent maintenance history. My guess is this car would sell for 34-38 grand if mileage was in the 30-40,000 range.

I would still have a PPI done as paint and body work is permissible under a CPO (see attached) and that would be a show stopper for me. YMMV.

Here's the PAG options list:

Is she asking you for an offer?

Keep us posted and good luck,

Eddie

Thanks Eddie.

I work with the owner and she asked me if I'd help her sell. I'm interested in the car for myself but want to provide her with objective information so she can decide what she wants to ask for it. She said she'd give me first crack at it so we'll see if the numbers are right. Hard to find a car with that mileage but I like the color combo and options are decent. If I pass I'll list it for her on RL.

You're welcome tlarocque.

I just thought of another way for you to arrive at a fair price. You (or her) take her car to CarMax (a couple in your area) and get an offer from them. You give her 1-2 grand above that and everybody's wins. My guess is you'll buy it for under 25 grand, which is I think is great since you have a good idea of its provenance.

987.2's are not exactly common and this may affect the Carmax offer but it might be the best way for you to pay a fair price and her to get a fair price.

kbb.com says its trade in value in good condition is 19-23 grand. I'd bet Carman will offer between 17-22 grand.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Check the NADA value as well. In the case of the Cayman S I feel the KBB pricing is a bit lower than the marketplace. In regards to dealer pricing the NADA guide was pretty spot on. I just bought a 2009 Cayman S in November

I agree with this. I recently bought a 2006 Cayman S and while paying a little over both KBB and Edmunds' private party price, I still think I got a good deal.

Check what others are asking at cars.com or Autotrader.com. Will take a bit of homework, but then you'll know. I would never trust the blue book on a Porsche.

Potential seller is holding on to the car for another month or so. Will see what she decides then. Appreciate all the input.

Re-viviing this thread as seller is now ready to part with her car. I don't know the 987.2 Caymans S or PDK cars all that well. Besides normal wear items like tires, brake pads/rotors, what other things should I be looking our for on a car with 79k miles?

The supply of 987.2 cars seems to be exceedingly low. Asking price for car is $28k but I think she'll go a little lower.

Supply is low but not so low that this car is worth 28 grand IMHO.

Use the attached docs to get an idea what maintenance should have been done during its 80k miles.

Proper (and current) maintenance would make this an easy purchase at $23-25,000.

Good luck,

Eddie

If it were manual, I would be all over this at 28k.
I have seen non s gen 2s go for 28k

I don't have any pictures as she doesn't actually have it listed for sale. I have seen it in person because we parked in the same garage. Nice car... white over tan (exactly like my '88).

I love driving manuals but I have that covered with my Carrera. The idea of a dual-clutch has grown on me. But I agree, there just aren't any .2 cars out there, especially not in the $20's. Stevens Creek Porsche in NorCal has a 93k mile black Cayman S manual and they are asking $25k. Not quite as well-optioned but closer to you.
