Default 718 Cayman Vs Z06

I currently have a 14 911S. Once the warranty is up I was looking at both of these. I just don't understand how they both could be in the same price range considering the 0-60 is 2.9 seconds So please be nice with your comments. I own a Porsche and I know this is a Porsche forum.

718 has a new motor so some unknowns with it. Normally I'd say Porsche would build a good motor, but the 9A1 GT3 has had some problems. The Z06 has well known issues with overheating on track. It is stinkin fast up until the heat issues set in. To me despite the pricing similarity, the other cars I'd look at vs Z06 include Viper, Shelby GT350, GTR

I faced the same dilemma in November and narrowed it down to the Vette, M2 and Cayman S. I scratched the M2 off the list as I couldn't make that big an investment without driving it first.

The Vette looked like a great value until I started reading through some of the forums. What I learned is that people are having a lot of issues with the Vettes and GM is less than hepful: overheating, blown motors, an interior that wears very quickly, poor build quality, rattles, etc. I agree that the Z06 is fantastic bang for the buck performance-wise, but the forum research made me think twice. Since then, I've read a few long-term tests in the major car mags (CD or R&T; can't remember exactly) and they had a horrible 1 year experience with the Corvette.

I ended up going with a very slightly use 987.2 Cayman S and have no regrets, but I'm sure that you'd be happy with either one depending on what you're looking for.

Hope that helps a bit.

I appreciate that sir. It's a shame that the vette being new has those problems. Crazy. I was reading about the new 718 and its 0-60 in 4.0. My 911S is 3.8. So that 718 isn't so bad.

I remember being a teenager in the 90s when people said the same thing about Porsches vs. Vettes (I grew up in a GM town.)

Do any of us really even consider 0-60 times anymore? Cars have been fast enough for me for decades, at this point, so the fit, finish, looks and handling of a Porsche is what sells me on it.
