Yes Marty that is what I am going to do too. That is just install a pigtail with a connection into the frunk. I might even look at installing one of the Porsche 12V plug receptacles there too just wired directly to the battery and pole. Just for a nice clean set up like Porsche should have it . . .
I am sure that Porsche figures the situation of being without battery power in these new cars is B A D. And while it is bad, you would also expect them to have a plug where it does indeed shut off a drain (negative pull) on the battery but stays active when is sees a (positive)charge input to the system. It isn't like they don't already have some complex systems in these cars . Just about the time I get that done of course Porsche will come with a way to code the cars existing plugs lol lol. The way it works.
And no there is nothing special about the Porsche charger - it is just what I got to try and use with this if I could. I have other real battery chargers too - the RitzNational 126AC is a great maintainer and sitting right in the shop. I know the Porsche shop guys and he asked what size is your big shop charger. I said 600 amps or so. He made a face and said No , please, no. Lol. Of course I wasn't going to put that on to the new Cayman.

I have a CTEK Charge-O-Mat (Porsche Tequipment) that I bought several years ago. I used it to keep my new '16 BS charged during the winter. Plugged it into the receptacle in the console and it worked fine all winter. Now I plug it in and after around 15' or so, the charging light is on and the maintenance light is flashing rapidly, all red. I called the teck at CTEK and ran it by him - since it worked so well all winter, I have to think it's a defective plug on the unit. Tried it on my X3 - same result. The technician agreed that it may be a faulty plug. I'm sending it to him to test it out - they will replace the plug if needed. Will let you know how it goes.

Certainly good to know Phil.
But Porsche confirmed that at least on my car it is going to turn off the 12V ports after 30 minutes at least for now.
The only reason I think that my charger is good is that when I cycled past the car shutting the plugs off at 30 minutes by using the key the charger stayed in level 2 and then switched to level 3 of the over 90% charged before the next 30 minutes passed. Of course it didnt get to go in to float and maintain which is where I need it for longer periods.
I am going to get something set up but I havent gotten back to it yet.

Hmmm. I wonder why the electrical gurus at Porsche would only let it charge for 30 minutes? This sounds like a retrograde change from the 2015 models, If the car sat for 3 weeks during monsoon season it would take quite a few trips out to the garage to reset the maintainer to get the battery up to full charge. If my car sits for like 2-3 weeks and I plug the maintainer in it takes longer than 30 minutes to top off the battery.
Glad you got an answer, hope they get you a fix ASAP

Question #2, just in this thread, there is a lot of shimmying around to accommodate the finicky damn P Car. The Porsche gurus should just install a maintainer with 110V plug as part of the wonder of these cars. At LEAST make it an option and put some pre-drilled mounting holes in the frunk. I love this car. GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Question 3: what is the problem with hooking to the neg terminal on the batt??

gud forbid you dont use a P charger. Lol kidding. I dont see any problem but would be easier to mount some pigtails to the battery.
2 Its not that complicated. Just some folks make it that way. The explainable reason for shutting down aux sockets is not to run down your battery should you have say a gps or Escort plugged in there and forget to disconnect it.
3. Actually nothing. Some might say it could cause a spark. Ive had pigtails to batteries for chargers/ maintainers in many cars and motorcycles and none have burned up. The Cetek, aka Porsche charger at 1/2 the price and IS the Porsche charger with a P name on it, is attached to + and - terminals for 4 yrs. btw, it will even go red if you hooked up the wrong terminals and say dummy you hooked me up backwards.

I have a 2015, the Porsche Battery Maintainer worked perfectly on the car. In my new storage unit, no 110....so I slapped a small solar panel on the roof of the storage unit, and ran that power through a sort of scrubbing device, and directly on to the battery with alligator clips. Does it work? We'll see, it's undergoing it's the first test now. I am letting it charge for a week....if all is well, I'll post up specifics.
I don't have access to the 2015 Owners Manual...but as I recall, it was mentioned that if the car is to be left static for an extended length of time, use a battery tender.

Just got a 2012 S myself and am trying to sort this out. I knew I would need a maintainer, and not trying to hijack this thread, but Is there any problem using a Schumacher mounted in the frunk cavity somewhere?
