Default Steering thump bump problem

New owner of 2014 with 10k miles. I'm experiencing a significant bump in the steering when first backing up and turning or going forward and turning. Almost but not quite at full lock. It. Feels like running over something. Stock wheels and tires.

Common issue, especially in colder temps with summer tires. I'm sure some will explain the issue with terms like Ackerman steering geometry, and such. It is basically tires skipping across the pavement, because the inner & outer sides of the tires are traveling at different speeds.

It is usually more pronounced, or only, at full lock on the steering. Not a big problem for me, but I have felt it on the few mornings we have at

My post keeps getting truncated for some reason. Was just trying to say I feel it at full wheel lock on the few mornings it is less than 40, but can avoid it by not locking the wheel in either direction.

That sounds typical for a limited slip differential. Do you have the PTV option?

it is not uncommon to feel almost a bind at close to full steering lock AND tire cold tire scuff. Both are quirks and not a problem. It has nothing to do with LSD i some times wonder if these folks own cars made by match box or leggo that give opposite end advice

As stated, this is a common problem caused by the front suspension geometry. Will happen while turning sharply (in forward or reverse) at low speeds when the tires are cold usually when temps are cool, but not necessarily.

so... If true what is the explanation? I've had a few Porsches, none did this.

For a technical answer you'll need to use your search skills. As to Porsche models other than 981, I have no experience. I only frequent the 981 Cayman/Boxter forums.

20s on the 981 do this, I had a loaner and talked to the service manager about it.

Interesting, must be something with the suspension geometry on the 981. My 987.2 had factory 19s and no issues like I experienced in the 981.

Not sure if you've ever ordered LSD on your Matchbox and Leggo cars, but that is a characteristic feature. Cease with the smugness, please.

my car does this, EXACTLY as others have explained, at lower temperatures. The sound comes from the front, NOT from the back.
