Default Motor Oil selection

Getting ready to change the oil in my '08 Cayman. Used Mobil 1 synthetic 0w-40 in the past. Also I have read some disconcerting things about Mobil 1 synthetic that it no longer contains the proper additives as in past Mobil 1 blends so I'm thinking of going with Castrol Edge Syntec full synthetic as some posters that have changed have gone to and recommend. Would like others to comment on this? Thank you.

Your car is new enough that the "missing additives" is not a concern. If you had an aircooled car I would suggest against using Mobil 1.

I highly recommend Motul XCESS 5w40, (Porsche A40 approved). The best pricing I have found is as follows: http://www.speedlifemotorsport.com/m...r-oil-5-liter/ (Be sure to order enough to get the low cost shipping.)

.

Yes, use this oil or Mobil 5W50. Both Porsche approved.

I've also just purchased a 07 Cayman S, motor oil was changed when PPi was performed (Mobil 1). I'm going to change over to Joe Gibbs Driven DT 40 developed for the water cooled Porsche engine by Flat 6. Best, Mark

Here's what most people don't know about your choice. To get the best results, the fastest, from DT40, you need to do an oil flush for a few hundred miles with another Joe Gibbs product. DT40 really fights with the Mobil additive package, and causes a lot of negative cross pollination. If you don't do the flush first, no real issue, you just won't get the best results/protection, from the DT40 till your second or 3rd oil change. But that might also be in year 2 or year 3 of your driving season. Something for you to consider.

+1 LexVan. Will flush with Driven DT40 in the next two weeks for fall and drain and refill again in the spring. Cayman only has 17,000 miles on it. Best, Mark

Mark, not sure I completely understand. Don't flush with DT40. Flush with one of the other Driven products. Do your research. I thinks it's BR30. Check.

You make it sound like you are going to store your car without oil? Don't do that.

Your correct, I was going to change to DT40 for the fall, winter and then drain in spring and fill again with DT40. I did read the use of the break-in oil for the flush. That sounds good. Thanks again for the insight. Best, Mark
