Default Radar Detectors

I presently have an escort Max but am thinking about possibly going with the Valentine radar detector. Although there are many reviews on both units I think the best review would be from the members. Any input both pro and con from either model would be greatly appreciated.

Sadly, many detectors are becoming almost useless. So many cars have lane departure crap, adaptive cruise control and all sorts of other driving aids that spew out radiation worse than Chernobyl. Audi makes some of the worst offenders. Cause all sorts of false K-band alerts.

I too have an Escort Max that I sometimes use in one of my cars that has many "nannies" including lane departure warning and adaptive (radar) cruise control.

Not only is the Max unaffected by the in-car systems it usually rejects emissions from other cars that have similar systems.

Furthermore, the GPS function in conjunction with the Escort Live phone app quickly eliminates alerts from fixed non-law enforcement radars.
It also informs me of nearby police and upcoming enforcement radar locations.
(The "live" radar alerts one-up Waze in a significant way.)

The only downfall with the Escort (and all detectors) is that a laser alert is always of a "too late" nature.

I like the directional idea of the Valentine One, but will stick with what I have since it's saved my bacon on more than one occasion.

Apparently the newer V1 have the ability to be set up to filter many of these. I may also upgrade as its become useless in traffic. I do not have experience trying this. The false ones do seem to be primarily K band so i would bet filtering would work. Link below has some info.

I have been considering a new Max, but I'm not sure if the Max is sufficient for me, or if i need the Max2. I'm really not a waze user and understand that if I'm lasered and exceeding speed limit, I'm screwed. Which model do you have, and are you happy with it?

I have the Max 2 but I really didn't require the wireless feature. Call me a smart shopper (not) but I had a credit at Best Buy and they only had the Max 2 at that time. No difference in performance. The GPS feature is the big plus over the V1.
I have to chuckle at the people who desire the arrow pointer. Although it's a nice feature, all I know is that when my RD goes off, my first reaction is to slow down, not look what direction it's coming from.

Maybe that's because you can't

I've used a V1 for over a decade and since all high end detectors have great range, my #1 desired feature is the directional arrows. When my V1 goes off I want to know if the threat is a half mile in front, behind or on a side road. I also want to know when I've passed it.

I DO react differently to different scenarios because with the V1 I can. Full situational awareness has saved me countless times.

Lightbulb this is how i protect myself from hazards like police playing hide and seek on the rd

garbage verizon ellipsis 8 tablet with Waze, and a Redline radar detector. Directional information is not as relevant as strength and intensity of signal growing over time. When it beeps, I'm off the gas. If it gets stronger, I'm downshifting.
