2008 Prosche Cayman
Hello
new here and I am looking at a 2008 Cayman with 38,000 miles.
It has manual transmission.
What are the thing I need to look-out for in this model year?
It is a private seller.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

I live in California and the seller lives in New York, this is a private sell, I want to have a PPI for the car , but I can t go there because I am working
If I buy it I will have it shipped in California. what would be a more feasible way to make sure the car is in good condition
thanks again

Maybe commission someone in New York on the forum or if you know someone to check it out for you. There isn't a whole lot you can do if you can't fly out yourself then arrange for transportation back/drive it back.
PPI with over rev scan would give you a pretty indicator whether the car is healthy or not. Members who have purchased out of state might be able to chime in and give you their advice.

I went through the same process about 9 weeks ago. My Cayman was purchased from a CA porsche dealer and shipped by an enclosed transporter to my house. This was my 5th car purchased site unseen, but I have always had a ppi done before a purchase....but this time around things didn't go as planned.
The car I purchased was a 08 Cayman S Sport Limited Edition with 35K miles (w/no warranty). The overall condition is flawless..interior and exterior. The dealer had just performed a 60k service (due to age not miles) and all checked out. I also had the dealer do an inspection of the car and was emailed all the info as well as an over rev report (also good) and records dating back 3 yrs.
When I received the car I noticed a ticking/knocking noise coming from the drivers side engine compartment. After driving 2 days and putting about 60 mils on the car I knew something wasn't right. I notified the dealer in CA and scheduled an appointment at Minneapolis Porsche for a diagnosis of the sound. All checked out until they performed a borescope on the cylinders. #3 cylinder was scored. After 9 weeks of going back and forth with both dealers and porsche, I finally picked up my Cayman 4 days ago with a new block and complete engine rebuild all under goodwill, including a 2 yr warranty.
If I were to do things again, I would have requested a scope of the cylinders just to make sure. I've been told that checking for scored bores is not something normally done on ppi unless request.
If your cayman in question is the car you've been looking for, by all means get a FULL ppi done. It can save alot of headache and time.
Hope all works out for you. I'm absolutely in love with mine!

It would have to be a pretty special Cayman or an unbelievably good deal to buy one in New York and have it shipped to Cali...
Gen 1 Cayman's are great cars, but not exactly rare. Find a local one that you can put eyes on yourself...
I can't tell you how much variation I've personally seen in cars described as 'excellent' condition. Some have 50K miles on them and still look like they just rolled off the showroom, others 25K miles and they look like the've been to hell and back.
