Default Cayman s hold function-question

Out exercising the car this AM. I was on a fairly steep grade using the HOLD function. Shortly after I let off the clutch to get moving I smelled a distinct acrid smell for a short time. I am curious if this could have been clutch spin or the brake discs against the pads with the hold function. There was no tire spin, high revs, etc. the car drove of normally.
Any ideas, the car is new and has 600 miles. Kinda got me wondering....
Thanks in advance, Pat D

My new Cayman has aprox 6000 on it and has finally stopped smelling after a hot drive. This is perfectly normal and is just all the cosmoline and other factory protectants burning off.

Only when starting again from Hill Hold in my uphill driveway when waiting for the garage door have I smelled it. I noticed it in the garage when I put the windows down or open the door. I bought my 2014 Cayman S with a little over 2400 miles on it. I can assure u i am not burning my clutch when starting to drive it into the open garage. Something about the Hill Hold that does that...

My 09 Cayenne GTS with Tip, bought with over 71k miles and traded a year later with 75k miles, never did that...

Thanks to all who responded. I noticed when I got it back to the garage after about a 10 minute drive that the smell was still a bit noticeable around the rear wheels. I do wonder if the rear pads were being scuffed as torque was being transmitted to the wheels shortly before the car pulled off and the pads released? f. I have used the hold function a few times on slight grades with no smell, but this was a pretty steep grade, actually a small hill.

I've owned 14 w manual trans in 45 years. Never burned or wore out a clutch. These last 2 are the first I've owned with Hill Hold. I do find the Hill Hold turns off easier if I jerk the car when starting up, both on the Cayenne GTS and my Cayman S.
