Default The Stuttgart Cup 2013 Recap

Jacksonville, FL – September 18, 2014 – The Stuttgart Cup was launched as a Winter Series in conjunction with the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) schedule in the Fall of 2013. The race schedule included legendary tracks such as Daytona International Speedway, Sebring International Raceway, Palm Beach International Speedway, Road Atlanta as well as lesser known and widely loved Savannah Grand Prize of America. The inaugural Winter Series saw a fantastic car count with eighteen different drivers.

In January of 2014 Ken Fengler joined The Stuttgart Cup as Competition Manager. Shortly after, America’s GT Cup LLC was formed with Fengler as General Manager. Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy joined America’s GT Cup group to run alongside The Stuttgart Cup. In March Pirelli Tire North America signed a three-year agreement to be the official tire of The Stuttgart Cup/Mission Foods GT3 Cup.

In April a record-breaking twenty-one Stuttgart Cup and Mission Foods GT3 Cup cars were gridded for a fantastic weekend of racing at Road Atlanta. Sportsman Competitors Bill Riddell and Joe Sullivan were separated by just one point in theChampionship battle entering the final race weekend. Eight points separated third place contenders Keith Faver, Jim Gray, Bob Schneider and Matt Dicken. It was Bill Riddell who came out victorious followed by second-place Joe and Joey Sullivan and Matt Dicken and John Lewis third.

stuttgart cup2013 Championship Awards were presented in July. Championship trophies and a full set of Pirelli PZero race tires were presented to the top three finishers. The 2013 Series Champion Bill Riddell received a membership to the Palm Beach Driving Club at Palm Beach International Raceway and a one-week all expenses paid stay in Playas Del Coco, Costa Rica.

In addition, Hudson Historics donated Bob Akin’s 1984 IMSA Camel GT Championship Trophy. The Stuttgart Cup/Mission Foods GT3 Cup awarded this iconic trophy as the Hudson Historics Sportsman Award in honor of Bob Akin. Award criteria includes a passion for motorsports, a successful race history, superior sportsmanship, a sharp wit, a courteous presence, a broad range of interests, devotion to family and friends and a record of contribution to the motorsports community. Bill Riddell was honored as the first recipient.

The 2014 schedule was confirmed with appearances at Road Atlanta, Autobahn Country Club, Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course, Savannah Grand Prize Race Track, Daytona International Speedway and Sebring International Raceway.

About The Stuttgart Cup/Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy:

Both The Stuttgart Cup™ and the Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy USA by Car Amigo are managed by Americas Cup GT L.L.C. Both championships are sprint and endurance series with The Stuttgart Cup™ open to all Porsche Caymans and Boxsters and Mission Foods GT3 open to all 2000 and later Porsche 911 GT3s and related models. Rules for both series are centered on power to weight ratio. All competing Stuttgart Cup cars must compete with stock make and model engine and transmissions with approved allowances for exhaust and intake modifications. Stuttgart Cup organizers also welcome all competitors with existing race-prepared Caymans or Boxsters to compete with body and engine modifications balanced within series power to weight ratio parameters. All such competitors will not be eligible for championship points or class-designated race wins, but the door is always open to all Cayman and Boxster competitors to get in on the action.
