Our first Porsche
Hi, folks.
I've long been a fan of the marque, and as an HPDE instructor I've driven and ridden in many, but until today I've never actually owned a Porsche.
Today that changed, for today we signed the paperwork and purchased a beautiful 2011 Carrara White Cayman S:
PDK, PASM, Sport Chrono Plus, LSD, Sport Exhaust, 19" Carrera S II Wheels, black full leather interior, and a few other goodies thrown in for good measure. 17,000 miles, and CPO.
This will actually be my wife's daily driver, but it will see track time with both of us behind the wheel.
Fortunately for me, my wife shares my enthusiasm for things sporty, and she's known exactly what she wanted for a while now. However, it seems that nice 09+ examples with PDK/PASM/SC+ don't come up all that often, and when they do they don't hang around for long. After searching since the start of the year, we eventually found this one at a dealership in Virginia, and now begins the impatient wait while it's shipped down here to Texas.
So I thought I'd post here to say hi, and to ask if folks have any particular recommendations for a first-time owner. In time, I'll be looking around for recommendations for things like brake pads, etc, but in the short term I wonder if there are any particularly useful threads or forums that you might recommend we take a look at or subscribe to in the meantime. I've already downloaded the Owners Manual and PCM manual for some bedtime reading.
Thanks, and hi!
Jon.

Thanks! Hope to have a delivery date in the next day or so, once they know how many other vehicles will be in the same enclosed trailer and how many stops will be required along the way. Apparently there's more to shipping logistics than meets the eye - it's not like sending a package via FedEx.

Congratulations to you and Joy!
Missed you at the Tejas meeting on Monday evening ... I had questions about shipping your car since I was looking at a CPO in Pennsylvania.
Ended up purchasing an older Cayman S locally (with only 11k miles) for considerably less$. I should take delivery tomorrow. I'll post info once I have it in hand.
Most important ... congratulations to you and to Joy! I can't wait to see the car in person.

I've wanted a Cayman S ever since they came out. Last week, I went to the Porsche dealer to try out a 2014/2015 and I was shocked...I could not see past 1-2 inches past the hood. I wouldn't know where to stop or when to turn. I've been used to driving Corvette's where I can see the end of the hood. So what's the secret to driving these (I reminds me of the VW Beetle back in the 1970's where you also couldn't see the end of the hood).
Thanks in advance for your comments.

You can't see the hood but you do see the road. You get used to the unique view quickly and it gives you the feeling of being connected to the road.
