Default Cayman S 2014 Discount

My friend is planning on buying a 2014 Cayman S. What discount can he expect to get. Would he get a bigger discount if he took a car that is in stock.

He should shoot for 8% off at least imo. There have been quite a few threads on this here or over at planet 9. Great group of 981 owners over there.

Just purchased a 981C for 9% off MSRP without any hassles. YMMV, obviously, but I find if you do your research and find an in stock car, you are apt to get a great deal. I've been watching all of the stock at all of my local dealerships (SF, CA) and noticed that Caymans are sitting on the lot for weeks before being sold. To be fair, not many cars are selling this time of year, so you might be able to get up to 10%. My particular car was on the lot since May and I bought it in October. I think that's why they had no problem moving it for 9%...in retrospect, I probably could have gotten more!

Good luck!

S.O.P. I think.

The 2014's have been on the street for a while, so everyone that wanted to be the 1st kid on the block already bought one. You should be in a strong negotiating position for any remaining 2014's.

When I got my 2006 CS, I did exactly what you did….checking inventory anywhere in the Southwest. I ended up purchasing my car off the local dealer's lot in very early January. Seems like I got maybe $10K off on an original sticker of $65K.

Best of Luck!

It depends on how far away the buyer is willing to travel, and if its a car that's been sitting on a lot or if he is ordering. If its been sitting on the lot for several months than maybe 8-9% depending on the dealer. If he is ordering a car, then aim for 7.5%.

We couldn't find a car spec'd the way we wanted it so we were going to have to order one. After shopping around the I found dealers telling me 4.5-7.5%. Another owner told me there was some place way south of me that was offering 9% on cars left on their lot. However, once you get into working with dealers further away, you have to figure in the cost of transporting it (or flying down and driving it back) which cuts into the difference if any between 7.5 and say 9% on a roughly $70-85K car.

Is your friend in Canada? If so, gather Canadian, not US, buying intelligence. Unfortunately different markets. 10% off a new Cayman in Canada would be quite a feat.

I got 4.5% discount on a Cayman S with 12k of options. You guys are lucky. I financed half of car. Maybe if you pay cash you can get a better discount?

You probably won't do better by paying cash. Its not like offering to pay cash for a Rolex rather than putting it on a credit card. In this case using a credit card costs the watch dealer a say approximately 2-3%.

A dealer actually makes some money if you finance the car through them. So that may give them a little more room to discount off the price of the car...then just pay it off early so you don't pay all the interest on it. If you pay all in cash, they lose an area where they can make some money, so it doesn't actually help a dealer when you pay cash. They may actually have less incentive to discount a car any further if you pay all cash.

I heard they can give you a better deal if you buy a car in their showroom. That wasn't an option for me. My dealer tend to build their cars for maximum comfort and expensive materials. Not much for performance. I don't need burmeister sound system, carbon interior, 18 ways seats... That car was sitting in the showroom for more than 6 months. 115k+tx. In Canada, 30k more and you get a brand new 991 gt3.

Yes, most times dealers will give you a better deal on something that is in their showroom (especially if its old inventory). We couldn't find anything equipped the way we wanted it...so we ordered a car.
