Default H&R Springs or Cayman R springs?

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2006 Cayman S, non PASM. Riding on Cayman R 19" (Spyder wheels). Bone Stock Suspension. It's in need of new Dampers as the ones that are on it now are original. The car also sits to high with its current setup for my taste. I am looking at getting a set of Bilstien B8 Performance+ dampers. My question is on the Springs. I like the way H&R springs look on the 987.1s, but I am concerned that there might be some rubbing if I combine them with the dampers, especially the front wheels. Anyone have any experience with this? Should I just get the Cayman R Springs instead?

Current Height of the car. 100% stock suspension. 19" Cayman R wheels

I'm aware my set up isn't what you are asking, but for the record:

Stock shocks, Ebiach springs (similar to the H&Rs), 15&7mm spacers, R wheels - No rubbing with a fair bit of leeway. You'll be fine.

Think I had the eibachs on my 08 before spending a lot more for coil overs. No rubbing. Lowered the car nicely. The stock springs sit on a perch above the wheel so seems they should never rub. If I’m remembering right.

With all the good reports from owners who have installed the "R" springs, Getting the ride height correct f and r. That is where I would go. While you are doing this check all the rubber suspension parts as well.

I went from stock to Eibach + B8’s to Cayman R springs+Koni sports.. With the Eibach springs I had stacked 3mm rubber spacers (P/N: 996-343-511-00) with the standard 6.5mm ones (P/N 996-343-511-01)— these sit between the spring and top mount so effectively I was 3mm higher in front compared to a typical Eibach setup. With 18” Cayman S wheels + Eibach springs there was no rubbing the wheel liners but I needed to be careful entering driveways to avoid scraping the front lip— depending on where you are that may or may not be an issue but, for me, it was and was the primary reason for the spring change. Don’t have a good picture of the Cayman R setup as I just finished the install a few days ago but here is one with the B12 kit (B8+Eibach).

To echo Apex1 while there check the condition of strut bearings, top mounts etc and replace as needed as those degrade over time. Mine definitely needed replacement at 82k miles.

Neworld- If you could position your car in the same location as above with the R springs stance that would be great. Then fill in the suspension travel and feeling comparing the difference of the R springs and Koni shocks to Eibach springs and B8's.
thanks.

@ newold_m , What spring pads did you use with the Cayman R springs? I'm seeing conflicting info on the forums. I just bought Cayman R springs and B8s, hoping to install in a few weeks.

For the front I used 6.5mm ones. Here is how the front and rears look as assembled with the Koni sports. Rear spring wasn’t totally loose but wasn’t super compressed either so added a zip tie to make sure it does not rotate. With B8’s you don’t need them but for bumpstops using Spyder ones in front that are slightly shorter than stock and stock ones in rear.

Front: Koni+Cayman R

Rear: Koni+Cayman R

Perfect thanks. Looks like I'll just have to order the oem sized ones off my stock setup. Noted on the B8s not needing bump stops as they are internal. From what I've see, spring should be snug with my setup.

You’re welcome and you’re right on the rear springs — B8 have shorter bodies so spring should be snug.
