Default Cayman name alternatives

Sorry...this is a bit of a rehash....

...but since apparently so many do no like the name 'Cayman', what would be some alternatives?

I'm surprised that Porsche has never looked to it's rich history of individuals and place-names for inspiration.

Here are some possible 'people' names that could have been used on the Boxster Coupe or could be used for future models:

Porsche Komenda

Porsche Butzi ( too Italian sounding?...had to skip "Ferry for obvious reasons!) )

Porsche Max ( in honor of Hoffman )

Porsche Strahle

_______________

place names :

Porsche Gmund

Porsche Zuffen ( my fav )

Porsche seems fond of latin names in the style of 'Carrera' so I guess we should be glad they did not call it the 'Chihuahua'.

This all started in my opinion with a bad name for their SUV...'Cayenne'.

It should have been called the Porsche Dakar....in honor of Porsche's success there and the greatest offroad race in history. ( in fact I can't belive none of the autmakers have snatched 'Dakar' up for their SUV names ! ).

I think what happened with the 'Cayman' is that the marketing guys pondered 'what name is kinda like Cayenne?' and someone whipped out a map of north America and exclaimed 'I got it!!!!....'Cayman'.

This is mimicing Ford's silly 'Ex' naming trend that hs now gone to 'Fr'.

So what's next in the 'Cay' line? The Porcshe Cayuga? ( a city in Texas ) The Porsche Cayambe? ( Ecuador )

I understand Porsche's using the Carrera name after their success in that race....but I just don't associate precision German craftmanship with latin America or Carribean resort islands.

And has anyone considered the redundancy of 'Porsche Carrera RS'? is that not the Porsche Carrera Rennsport and thus the 'Porsche race race'?

If they are going to abandon the numbers due to marketing and the lack of appeal of the 1000's, then the names should be Germanic.

I was thinking along the lines of

Porsche FP2 (for both Ferdinand and Ferry)

Porsche LM14

Porsche Florio

or just go back to something really basic like the Gmund Coupe.

Default now that I think about it

the name Carrera GT was kinda silly as well...are not ALL Carrera's in Porsche history "GT's"?

The Carrera GT was the perfect model to go with the '1000' number.

But in the end, it's the car that matters and 'Cayman' has already grown on me a bit.

Someone (perhaps on another forum?) mentioned the name "Solitude" - after one of Porsche's old test tracks located near Schloss Solitude. I think it sounds bad ***:

"Porsche Solitude"

Conjures up images of loners and Madmax. Advertising/marketing dorks would like it due to its likeness to the words "solid" and "attitude". Perfecto.

Coxster...lmmfao!

I dunno how viscious the name should sound. On Porsche's site, they say it will be "positioned between the 911 and the Boxster." I assume that means on the price scale, but is that any indication of the performance scale? I haven't seen any numbers for the Cayman yet.

If it's gonna be a "baby 911" in performance terms, it probably shouldn't have a name that makes it sound meaner or faster...or should it? I dunno. I don't really know anything about the car yet. And besides...my last license plates made people think about "urine tuned." So perhaps I'm not the best one to think of names. lol.

Apparently Coupe, pronounced "koopay" was one of the choices, but focus groups selected Cayman.

LMAO
Coxster. Nice. Either that or just Boxster Coupe, since that's what it is.

Does that mean the Cayenne should have been the 'Roxster'?

...or some would say 'Boxcar'.
