I hope so. That is a good looking vehicle. I can't wait to find out specifics and get a chance to drive it. It looks like something I would be very interested in getting rid of the 996 for.

I hope you are right. Those haunches (J-Lo butt) work with the drop-top but are too bold for the coupe. They need to be blended better, integrated as one unit with the airfoil shape of the hatch and greenhouse. The derriere is too busy, kind of like Delta Burke throwing you a moon.

Sorry if I offended anyone. I said that I consider it a "sidegrade" not that everyone does or should. They're both darn fine automobiles. For me, I'm hooked on the mid-engine layout but long for more power. Can't have it both ways unless I find a 1/2 million under the mattress somewhere for a Carerra GT. Also, the newer 987/997 are supposed to be considerable improvements over the previous generations. Congrats, riotgear, on your new 997! Enjoy...

Can't you get a Ruf 3400GT (or now 3600GT I guess) for 80something new? Are those sold in the States? Anyway, cheaper than a C-GT, but still with full warranty, heavy development. And you don't have to buy the wheels, body work, GT3 seats, interior treatments, etc. if you don't want to.

This weekend at our PCA DE (@ Barber Motorsports Park), I met a fellow who'd Ruf-tuned his 3.2L Boxster S. He said it's generating appx. 300 HP at the rear wheels.

There was a 997 S at this event, and the "Rufster" seemed its equal. He said he could pull away from the 997S if he started out in front, but conversely he had a hard time passing the 997S from behind. (Make of that what you will; I realize driver skill is of paramount importance.)

The point being that for a relatively small investment, you can build your own Boxster track/street car that will be very competitive. I'm considering doing this with my 2000 S.

An alternative would be to pick up a cheap '97 Boxster, and give it the full Ruf upgrade treatment.

I think Porsche is heading the right thing with Cayman, it brings the 911 back to a fun, light , fast sport car just like they had with original 911.
