The CD finally gets to go for it's first fun road trip-other than the ride home from NJ to MA, we go from MA to VT and back.

My brother in law lives up in VT and the 117 mile drive is sublime, especially at night. Even though I don't have the PDS at all, just the fixed HID's, I can see well enough with them so it is not a problem and no matter the curve, the spread of light was more than enough with the base Bi-Xenon setup.

Driving up north is nice especially when towing as I get to see all the other Luxo SUV's pass me on the way up, all loaded with the ski-gear. I didn't see any other 2015+ Cayenne's but did see a couple of 958.2's on the way home, one a base and the other an S so that was neat. Still not a T3 Touareg though as there are a lot fewer Touaregs out there than Cayenne's.

All loaded up to go home yesterday. The CD was right at home on the farm:





I had loaded my my sled along with the XR 70 and the KLX 125 as they won't start so I'll have to pull the carbs, clean them, get them running and give them a good once-over for the spring riding coming up as the snow will be melting quick these upcoming days:

Oh yeah, the CD towed beautifully and the display showed a 26 mpg, I need to find out how accurate my PDC is as my 2012 T3 TDI would get 22.5 towing the same trailer and sled so if there is an increase then that is pretty awesome. Of course, the entire load might weigh 1,500 lbs along with all the gear so even the wife's old 2006 Rav4 V6 towed it easily but doing the speed limits the entire 117 miles was a pleasure in the CD.

The 19" Design II wheels. Diesels have no air/PASM option. Air would have been nice for towing but my 2012 Touareg TDI did great with towing my boat even with the steel suspension so it is all I need:

NO, no apology necessary. The thread was trolling for others, like you, to share in the awesomeness and it sure is all awesomeness.

I mean, come on. Drive a Cayenne towing sleds. Then to drop off right into the ride-what can beat that? You even have an open trailer like I do even though someday I'll need to buy a new one as mine is narrow for the old ski widths. I'll need a wider trailer to take two of the new wider sleds, someday.

Back in the day, pre-children, up till 2009, I was going up Friday night and coming home Sunday night, riding around in circles with other grown men through the forests of America the beautiful. Eat, get gas, ride, sleep, repeat.

Having a quiver of sleds to choose from depending on the ride is just so, so nice.

As you know, the Touareg TDI is great, but the CD is even GREATER!

If there is one downside at all, and it bothers me not one bit but may others, is that the ride, even with 19" and 265 50 19 is sportier than the 2012 Exec I had with 20" and 275 45 20. I find that as long as I'm not doing any spirited driving no one knows the difference.

Love the pics and I'm one that does not care a whit about who posts what, where. It's all good here in Cayenneland.

Air suspension is an option for diesels. I found one in Bend Oregon when looking. Late to the trigger and it was $5K higher in price plus shipping fees across the country so I did not end up with it.

My CD has air suspension

My CD too has air suspension. I thought when I bought it it had locking hubs. Nope, AWD. It does have an "Off Road" switch that raises the suspension. Wonder what it does if there is no air suspension?

My steel spring version has the off road button and it lights on the instrument panel when pushed but I don't know what it does.

These days it is the old guys schooling the kids. Three of us nearly 50 yr olds were out with three twenty somethings last weekend. Those boys haven't gotten anything on us yet. Great times for sure.

I like the open 2 place trailer with the Cayenne. Years ago the CSP stopped me and ticked me with my old Cayenne S and a covered two place trailer. He told me I needed mirror extension for my Cayenne. I started towing with a full size truck... The open trailer is fine because we never drive that far and the sled can be stored in the garage. Also very nice when we start using some of the tighter, freshly bulldozed forest roads this spring. Usually you have to unload, unhook, turn around, re-hook. You may also just keep the old trailer. The new mountain sleds are getting narrower, most with skis at 36" center to center. The more trail oriented sleds are several inches wider but still similar to what they have been for 15+ years. Length is another issue, some hang of the back a little, which is no problem.

Waiting for a weather change later this week. It has been awefully spring like here, about 6 weeks early.
