Arrived today after a week in process at Intercity, an overnight in the snow storm, and a few days on the road. Even better than I expected. It is a travesty that these will no longer be available.

Bumperplugs.com to the rescue! This is a great solution for the holes left behind by the front license plate. Drill a 17/64" hole and these little guys slide right into place for a permanent fix.


This Cayenne has Rhodium Silver, steel springs, Premium Package, Bose, 14 way Memory seats with heating and ventilation, Infotainment radio, TPMS, and 19" Turbo wheels. I was surprised at how big the wheels look in person. I have a favorite hill nearby for the C4S and the Cayenne handles it easily. Not quite as tossable but it handles very well and is plenty quick downhill and uphill, too.

It looks and sounds very low key, which is a nice change from the Aerokit and PSE on the C4S.

I took delivery of the M5 in Jan 89. 28 years ago. It is older than most of the kids I work with! If my folks had bought it the day I was born, I would have been selling it on the way into business school.

The new M5 owner is very happy. He just sent me the pictures below.

I want to I look this good when I retire to Los Angeles after 190,000 miles!



I hope for a comparable life out of the CD. I hope I am up to it!

I do know I might look, accelerate, and brake better with a set of Fikse wheels.

This will become my daily driver. It is not as nimble as the BMW or the C4S but is is a very nice rig for a 5 passenger SUV.

I got a PPI from the dealership who did the 2500 mile service. I got the build sheet and window sticker. There were no service records, that I know of, between the original purchase and my purchase. Warranty runs through 2021. Six years from original in service date for a CD.

Fingers crossed.

I am coming up on 60 miles since taking delivery. Talking up a road trip!

All good so far. Should I be worried?

I would do an oil change soon to start with fresh oil but that is it.

+1 on oil change. Remember the CD uses Porsche C30 or VW 507 spec low ash oil to protect the particulate filter. You'll want to top off the DEF fluid too. Porsche doesn't want the fluid to get older than 4 years. As your DD you should be good. The dealer can tell you if any warranty work was performed, as you discovered they can't see maintenance done at other dealers.

Almost 300 miles on the new Cayenne Diesel since I took delivery nearly two weeks ago. It is a lot of fun, combined with a major dose of utility. I can push it hard and get 25 high performance miles per gallon in Sport Mode in town. I can get almost 30 mpg when I try to "hypermile" it with a gentle throttle in town. Taking it to Memphis with the local PCA this weekend, it will be fun to check it out on the highway. So far so good.

This Cayenne Diesel is almost perfectly optioned for me. Everything I need and nothing I don't. I do wish it had PASM to better manage the weight. That is more an issue with what I am used to driving than with the Cayenne itself, which is very well mannered. The CD is a worthy replacement for my 28 year old M5, but my M5 weighed less and its steel springs were tuned to handle more tightly. Has anybody successfully upgraded the steel springs suspension on a Cayenne Diesel? If so, to what?

One more thing.

Does anybody have one of these Rear Bumper Sill Guards from Suncoast? Looks like a great idea in the catalog but hard to implement on the bumper! The bumper on my 2015 has several "steps down" from the hatch to the roll-off. How best to install it so that it does not look like crap? I gave it a shot but I may have to buy another one and start over with a professional.

Road trip!


This was on I-40 coming back from Memphis. Went over today on the back roads and got about 25mpg at 95mph.

The diesel will cruise all day at either speed and it feels like it is loafing along at 2000 rpm. Pretty amazing.

Yup. Wife gets about 29mpg around town and 33-35 on the highway. Great car. I would recommend the WeatherTech rear liner mat and if you have a Bose it has a special cutout. A little more maintenance than a gas car, but easily justified with mpg numbers.
