Default Cayenne S Transmission Issues

Hi guys. I'm considering buying a 2004 Cayenne S with some transmission issues. It runs well aside from the intermittent tranny issues (ie. gear jerking). The seller wants $3k. It has 250kms. The interior is mint. So, my question is should I buy it and replace the transmission?

Might just need a new valve body. Search here in the forums.

Thanks! I did some research about it and feel comfortable spending $2k to fix it (egreplace the valve body).

It is a pretty easy DIY if you have some wrenching ability

Thanks mtnrat. My buddy has a hoist and (some) tools. We usually do try to delve into some of the more particular/intermediate type of Germanic car repairs. Replacing the valve body would make for a good weekend endeavour.

This is all fine if the problem is the valve body. The transmission may need a full rebuild. These things are notorious. I know this from experience. Budget for much more....

First scan the transmission with a Durametric, before handing-over a single dollar. This might be a huge can of worms...seriously.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely scan it with Durametric. What code/fault would be a deal breaker?

Indeed. I'll find out on Monday when I take it to the mechanic.
